All-new Mitsubishi Evo – first pictures
    by Adrian Hearn

Mitsubishi has revealed details of its first all-new Lancer Evolution in 20 years, ahead of its 2008 release.

Set to be unveiled at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the rally thoroughbred has been described by a source at Mitsubishi as ‘a very different animal.’

While the new Subaru Impreza has a tamer look, the Evo has maintained its angular shape, which has made it a massive hit with red-blooded petrolheads the worldwide.

Sitting on an entirely new platform, the Evo X will also boast a new engine and benefit from a DSG semi-automatic gearbox.

Although performance details are yet to be confirmed, expect the 2-litre turbocharged engine to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than four seconds and have a top speed in excess of 160mph.

While interior shots won’t be available until its Frankfurt launch, Auto Trader has been informed the Evo will have a much higher level of refinement as it competes with the sports saloon market – e.g. BMW M3 and Audi RS4 – for the first time.

But if you want one, you’ll have to wait. The Evo doesn’t go on sale until March 1 next year.

First Impression: It doesnt look as bold as the concept version. Looks like an RS version of an EVO X.

Im tempted to see the interior! Better than the Audi and BMW? Hmmm... It might be better than Impreza's interior which is luxurious than former Evo's.

Hmmm... The performance is nice. 0-100 in less than 4 seconds and exceeds 256 kph... I wonder how much interior weight gained with the materials used? How did they make it more rigid and more lighter?

I cant wait to see her perform in WRC and in the track. And most of all, I hope this Evo gets the title of the fastest car to go around Nurburgring Nordscliffe.

Nice! It's also based on the Outlander's GS platform.

im waiting for the hatch... remember the first concept is really a voluptuous hatch... not a sedan. and its hotter than that. ;)

    12-spoke wheels on a consumer-level car?

    That is a unique first

ganda talaga. sasakit ulo ko kung alin ang pipiliin between 08 STi and EVO X. Mas masakit sa ulo isipin kung saan ako kukuha ng pambili :evillaugh
