back in Papau new guinea, we used to cross flooded rivers with our Landcruiser 80 series.. the deepest we ever crossed was jst over the hood of the LC, of course naman it was fitted with a snorkle and ARB air lockers.. back then it was jst a normal way of getting home..

for floods here in the philippines.. the deepest i drove my stares was probably just lower than the headlites.. this was early sunday morning after ondoy.. we came from san fernando. thankfully edsa was not flooded anymore and we manage to reach home in silang cavite..

Usually just below headlight is safe... unless you're driving a car with a stupid-low intake (Ford Escape... Chevy Optra... old Lancer EFi or Sentra EFi)... but even if your air intake is at hood level, a bow wave from a truck can send water into the intake.

Crosswind, so far... just above the running boards (above knee level)... haven't driven it in deeper water because I don't particularly want my carpets to stink to high heavens...

It pays to know where your air filter is. It also pays to sit and observe the level of the water (or walk it out, if it's safe) before committing yourself. But of course, if you don't really need to go... just sit it out and wait for the flood to subside.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

for those of you little daredevils who treat your car as if it was a boat or a submarine, it's all fun and games until you incur damage to your car. have your differential gears and transmission (front engine rear wheel drive) or your transaxle (front engine front wheel drive) checked for water intrusion. the transmission, transaxle or differential has a vent on the top that ingests water as the inner temperature of these components cool down while treading water deeper than what your vehicle was designed to traverse.

hmmmm. probably the deepest one I got was around 15 years ago, I was using my carbed lancer singkit then.
buendia area, going to slex, in front of grepalife.
hood level yung tubig.... nothing was in my mind except for me go home after an urgent work at the office (I was in data center management then).

after one week, palit ako lahat ng joints, bushing and CV.... kinalawang lahat.

second highest was when I was still in college. headlight level, espana... I was using my VW beetle then.....
but knowing that these beetles are really ok in floods, nakatawid ako.... and wala naming nangyari sa oto.

ngayon, cars are equipped with ECUs.... lumampas kalahating gulong lang ang baha, nagpapatila na ako.
