Bless their soul. I have the same experience and the people who helped me change my tires is the driver and his pahinante of a vegetable delivery truck, who must have seen a decently-dressed man trying to put a jack underneat his car. Its frustrating but the help was greatly appreciated and just like what happened to you, they refuse to get my money. You know what I did? When they were about to go, I forced my money inside driver's pocket, in deep appreciation. thanking them profusely. May their tribe increase.

i also have a soft heart sa mga delivery van drivers. noon na-total wreck mga magulang ko dyan sa balintawak, sila din tumulong sa kanila. binuhat nila dad ko with a 90 degree bali na hita at crushed knee caps and my mom with broken ribs (due to seatbelt). sinakay nila sa one row isuzu aluminum van with the driver. tapos yun 2 pahinante sumabit na lang sa likod. napakabait.

after the accident, they still visited my mom and dad sa hospital. when my dad recovered, he called up the three and asked them kung ano maitutulong nya sa kanila. ayaw naman tumanggap ng pera pero sana daw makakuha sila ng magandang trabaho. and so my dad referred them to other companies na kilala nya. now ata, bisor na yun driver sa company na iyon pero pinasok lang sya corporate driver ng dad ko along with the two.

Yup. Hinuhuli pa nga ako ng Pulis once, diba?

I've tried changing tires in the middle of Elliptical Road in the middle of a typhoon. First year med ako nun. Suspended classes namin. Pauwi ako, there was a red Civic EG sedan with a flat tire sa gitna ng Elliptical. So I stopped. Babae pala may dala, papuntang UP Diliman. I think she was going to fetch her kids (suspended din ang classes). Hindi pala siya marunong magpalit ng gulong. It's a 5 minute job for me. So I swapped the tire and went on my way. A few weeks later I get a message from the school office. May tumawag daw asking for me. Gusto lang daw mag-thank you.

I've towed a Ford Laser and a Kia Carnival from underneath the Quezon Avenue flyover. Both were causing a massive traffic jam and medyo delikado kasi dun. Also towed a Nissan Urvan full of 'entertainers' that stalled while ascending the Cubao flyover. I had to clear the road. Traffic getting very backed up and malapit na mag rush hour.

Swapped a flat tire on a Honda City that got a flat sa tapat ng village namin. Sa UST mga dalawang flats din ang pinalitan ko during my time there. [makes me wonder if people actually read their owner's manuals].

It was a Chevy Cassia A/T, IIRC. One of the bosses of the ENT department also had a flat battery.

Then there was the incident with the Volvo 850 wagon and a tow truck along Commonwealth. Towed him to a gas station. He borrowed my tow strap and was towed by his Ford Expedition the rest of the way (Ayala Heights ata). I got a free dinner for two when I reclaimed my tow strap.

Everything from a taxi that ran out of gas to a W123 Mercedes that died in the middle of a U-turn slot.

[edit] There was also an incident where an Isuzu Hilander was double parking at Wilcon Quezon Avenue. Akala niya puddle lang, yun pala road digging. Shoot yung isang gulong, hindi maka-ahon. Problem was it was blocking two cars and aalis na yung isa. I stopped and gave it a quick tug. It didn't take much of my time. Siguro mga 15minutes lang.

An LC80 also fell into a water works digging along Examiner St. Both right side wheels fell into the digging. Even with the three diffs locked, hindi siya maka-ahon. Baka dahil madulas din yung asphalt (it was raining). Pero what the heck, no harm trying. Nakaahon naman [very slowly].

I don't really get their names. Siguro naman, nakauwi silang lahat ng maayos.

Hindi ko na din maalala yung iba. Isipin ko pa.

    On the flipside:

Nung maaksidente ako dati, afrasay and KCboy helped me out. Naglalaba pa ata si afrasay sa bahay that time. Iniwan niya ang labada para sa akin. A trio riding in a delivery van also gave me a ride to the nearest Police station.

Tinulungan din ni afrasay yung gf ng bro ko after ma-involve sa minor crash sa may A.H. Lacson cor. Dapitan.

When my clutch slave cylinder failed, hinintuan naman ako ni odell. Kaso hindi ako pwede magpahila sa kanya, Alfa Romeo ang dala niya that time (not the Patrol).

have you helped, or been helped by other motorists on the road

1988 - I was driving home from Oklahoma City OK to Reno NV and trying to make it there nonstop (19 hours). About 2 am along I-40 in New Mexico, I dozed off at the wheel and woke up to find my Nissan Pulsar jumping along sagebrush between the lanes! I quickly attempted to regain control and when I finally did, I came to a screeching halt. It was late autumn and the temperature was already below freezing. But, I was drenched in sweat and shaking uncontrollably.

Some guy in a pickup saw it all and stopped to ask if I was ok. He took one look at me and said, " Hey guy, you better take a nap". He then gave me a big bottled water and went on his way. I took his advice and took a nap...... for an hour and then kept going......

1994 - I was in eastern Oregon (coming from Reno NV) and headed to Boise, ID in my Plymouth Laser RS Turbo when at the top of a hill, I hit a long stretch of black ice and started sliding down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, an 18-wheeler semi was jacknifed on one lane while campers, paramedics, and other passerby's were parked (probably to help the semi) across the road. I didn't have any control of my car and just managed to keep it pointed straight. I managed to steer the car on the one open lane with one hand pressing down hard on the car horn to warn those on the bottom. I dimly remember seeing people narrowly getting out of my way. But, I made it through that one lane without hitting anyone. When I finally slid to a stop on a snow embankment, I was shaking uncontrollably and drenched in sweat like I did back in the 1988 incident. I guess I always do that whenever I had a narrow brush with death. Anyway, some guy decided to check if I was ok. He opened the door, saw me and said, "You all right, buddy? Want some coffee? When he handed me the styrofoam cup, I was shaking too hard to hold it. He took it, placed it on the dash, and said, "You'll be all right". By the time I quit shaking, the coffee had gotten cold...... Ahhh life.

In both cases, people came to my aid even though I was driving like an idiot.

like last year sa may araneta center nanood kami ng friend ko nung AND1 exhibition games. dahil hindi pa nagsisimula pumunta kami sa jollibee to buy some grub. there was this nissan frontier pickup that has been trying to get out of his slot. it was really tight so he was going back and forth with no improvement. padaan lang kmi nun pero lumabas sha ng sasakyan at tinawag ako tapos tinanong kung marunong daw ako mag drive. sabi ko oo tapos tinanong nya ko kung kaya ko daw ba ilabas sa parking yung pickup. so sabi ko sige. i only needed 3 moves, checkmate. nakakatuwa kasi hangang hanga sha. binigyan ako ng calling card tapos sabi tawagan ko daw sha. iirc taga movie industry sha.

^almost a similar situation but this time it involved a matrona in the open parking space fronting rustan's makati. she apparently wanted to park her car rear -end first but had difficulty doing so. after several futile tries she summoned me as i was walking towards my ride and requested me to park her car for her. i obliged and she was way, way thankful

conversely, i was once assisted by a gasoline attendant in the wee hours of the morning upon seeing my prolonged drunken struggle to change my slashed right front tire. it was unfortunate i wasn't able to thank him properly after helping me out in a notorious dark part of that road. lasing talaga ako noon ( which was a foolish thing to do in the first place)

doc otep: galing mo! mabuhay ka bos!
