Malapit na ang holy week and would want to speed some quality time with the family on a short vacation (3-4 days). What would you guys recommend? Any exotic but nearby places to go to? Nature trails? Of course, need to bring along the trusty car or van along (wala po akong 4x4 e).

Pls also categorize in terms of 1)affordability, 2)lodging, 3)overall impact (1-*star to 5-star,highest). Pls also dont limit to the high-end only, pwede rin yung mga short trips, cheap thrills (eg Tiger Safari in Calatagan).

    My bets
    1. Vigan/Baguio cultural trip- affordable but quite a long road trip (500-600km oneway), many lodging areas, many nature photostops; 4****

    2. Infanta/Real beaches - commune with nature/beaches (approx 125 km, quite near, few lodgings but can be cheap, 3***

    3. Puerto Galera - White beach; you can actually bring along your car with you on the ferry (less than 1000 yata ang pamasahe ng kotse), can be affordable but minimal amenities unless you're all beach bums, then you can manage, 3***

    4. Lobo, Batangas beaches - havent been here, this is the least-tread town with many good beaches (daw), want to check this out. Have any of you guys been here. I think this is a further 30kms past Batangas City.

    5. Albay/Sorsogon route - havent been here either, but will try for the pleasure of seeing mayon volcano and the whales.

    What do you guys think?

the best will be in Batangas. short drive (which is better for the kids para hindi sila mainip and mapagod).

yup ok sa laia, di pa gaanong puntahan ng tao... although di pa ko nag swim dun kasi i went there for climbing (mt. daguldol), pero ok yung beach.:D

kung gusto mo ng malayo, go for bicol/sorsogon... yun nga lang last time i drove there pangit ang daan dun sa bagong highway.

I'd go with the Vigan/Pagudpud run but being Holy Week... medyo hassle yung traffic up north. It'll be better to stick to a near area like Batangas and save teh trip up north for a regular summer weekend.

You may want to consider camping in Mt. Makiling sa Boy Scouts Jamboree. They do rent out camping equipment. You may take a deep in the nearby pools or nature trekking sa Botanical Gardens or Mudsprings.

I know a beach in nasugbu. batangas. Its about 3 hours from manila. I think its quite reasonable and they offer several activities pa. I think they have a website you can visit. Munting Buhangin Beach Camp. But be sure to make reservations as sson as now.... Then you can call them because they have an office in makati, if you have any inquiries.

The last time I went there we tried to go cove hopping by foot lang. We ended up sa dead end dahil may cave and we had to swim to get to the pther side. My dad and my titos were able to that daw and they were able to jump pa over a cliff and stuff....

NEVER GO NORTH THESE DAYS ..... super grabe po ang traffic due to NLEX road works... your family will just curse you!!!

I suggest south (Los Baņos) as mentioned above (National Arts Center is also nice to visit if you would be in the Jamboree na or take a hike up Mt. Makiling Peak 2), caliraya lake, Hidden Valley in Alaminos Laguna, there's also one in Tiaong Quezon (forgot the name of the resort ... its beside the boundary arch ng Quezon), and Pagsanjan falls.

Road works from Sn. Simon Exit to Sn. Fernando Exit ng north bound lane sa ngayon...according to olive drab its a 4 month project (before June I suppose e tapos na). Sa haba ng time, malamang pati south bound lane e ganun din.

The traffic can be at least an hour (a friend recorded 1.5hrs from about the end of the viaduct up to Sn. Simon exit yun)....but rumor has it that the trafic can extend up to pulilan exit na.

    I suggest these options:

Take Pulilan Exit and go via Mac Arthur Hiway crossing Calumpit-Apalit areas. On reaching Sn. Simon you can have the option on exiting it to back to the "expressway" or i-straight mo na to Sn. Fernando at dun ka na magexit to NLEX.

Warning lang, sometimes the trafic in Apalit is also unreasonable.

Option 2: Exit ka ng Sta. Rita and take the road going to Pulilan Market (meron by-pass road so you could skip the Plaridel intersection and avoid trafic). On the Pulian Market (may katapat ito na Jolibee and McDonald - its a crossing or 5 roads...one coming from Plaridel, Pulilan, Baliwag, the by-pass road you took and the hi-way by-pass going to Sn Rafael) take the road going to Sn Rafael. After about 3 or 4 km...you'll meet an intersection ng going to Candaba-Baliwag (this have a Jolibee on your left and on your right Shell gas station and there are 2 "unfinished pilars ng overpass" sa area na ito). Turn left going to candaba. A few kilometers after passing short tulay there is a road on your left that would go to Sta. Ana (Pampanga) via Sn. Luis (this is a small town of Pampanga too). If you're not too fast, you would notice a small sign board on the right side of the road for this direction. From the point that you turn left, the trip would be around 11 km at least to reach Sn. Luis.

From Sn. Luis, tawid lang kayo sa tulay and your off to Sta. Ana. This road will lead you to meet the Olongapo-Gapan hiway.

From that point, you could choose to go the Sn. Fernando Exit via Mexico town proper or to Sn. Simon Exit. If you take the right road that would lead you to Gapan (passing Sta. Ana town proper, Arayat town, Sn Isidro NE then Gapan).

All-in-all (if you don't get lost) going to Sn Fernando would be about an hour from the Sta Rita Exit with minimal trafic unless super trafic sa Sta Rita. Normally sa NLEX its about 30-45 mins from Sta Rita to Sn Fernando.

Last option, take the Sta Rita exit and go straight to Gapan and turn left at Gapan intersection and take the Olongapo-Gapan road to reach Sn. Fernando exit. This is at least 2hrs (para ka na ring na-stuck sa trafic ng NLEX).

    My 2 cents.

The Alabangerz[Sarsi, CK, totoybato, hotwheels and lady-hotwheels, clavel, GearSpeed, the gorgeous TsikotBabe - did I miss anyone?] did that some years ago,- from Alabang, to Julia Vargas (meet up with clavel), and then Ortigas, stopping a bit at Antipolo Church, and later stopping by for some snacks and coffee along the mountain roads, and then for some picture taking overlooking Laguna de Bay at Pililla, and then proceeding to Famy, and then to Real where we had lunch/paluto by the ocean and then back to Famy to Pagsanjan and then to Victoria, Calauan, San Pablo (where we had merienda), and then Sto Tomas, SLEX, and back to Alabang.... May pictures pa... post ko later...

    Whew! Sarap!
