Last edited by tomboy; April 30th, 2012 at 07:50 AM.

I think yung mga may airtight compartments talaga yung mga pick-up trucks and ladder-frame SUVs.

Is the ECU same as MICU? Sa FD nasa loob naman yun, sa driver's area left side (under the dashboard)..

AFAIK, it's constructed to protect itself from the elements. After Ondoy, the engine bay mounted ECU in the Vios of my in-laws did not need replacement (the battery terminal was just disconnected before the waters went up high) and the car started up the next day after cleaning it out. Three years and 40,000kms later, the car runs fine.
On the other hand, the EPS and another electronic unit (junction box?) which were both located inside the car needed replacement with brand new units.

Yeah. Most engine bay ECUs are water-protected.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

May 8th, 2013 12:37 AM #8profit for the manufacturer, they put the ecu in the engine bay, some on top of the engine itself, to save on wires, lots of wires. This is not an ideal place for the ecu its a harsh environment heat, vibration, dirt and moisture from an engineering point of view, but from a CEO point of view this is profit.

Pag tamad magisip yung engineer, then yes, hindi ideal location ang engine bay. Kung magaling yung engineer, kaya nyang gawan ng paraan so the ECU can survive the heat and other elements in the engine bay.
Signature

Not the same.
ECU/ECM/PCM: Takes care of engine/powertrain functions like fuel, timing, AFR, engine sensors, A/T transmission control, throttle control, iVTEC, etc.
MICU: Takes care of misc. accessories and electronics like wipers, horns, headlights, cabin lights, central door lock, A/C, etc.
Automatic po Sir
