the one on the lane always has the right of way. so if you are changing lanes and there is a vehicle on that lane, even if that vehicle is behind for as long as the distance is below the safe distance, then that vehicle has right of way. the distance of the vehicles must be according to accepted safe distances, which is 1 vehicle length/10mph (or 16kph) of speed. so if you are both travelling at 60 kph, you can safely change lanes when the distance between your vehicles is 4 vehicle lengths.

right of way yun asa lane nga.

hmm.. seems to me like the passenger suddenly said "sa tabi na lang ako.." coz if it werent like that, then you should be on the rightmost lane already by the time you're passenger asked you to drop him/her. :D

In the US, Right of Way has its exception. And that exception is for motorcycles. Kahit super tama ka pa, kung mabangga mo motorsiklo, siguradong makukulong ka. At kung mapatay mo sya kahit na ikaw ang nasa right of way, Involuntary manslaughter ka and you will serve time in jail.

Di ko lang alam kung may ganitong law sa Pinas. My advice, give them the right of way, always.

aside from sinabi nila, hihinto ka rin naman pala, so sana pinadaan mo na muna sya kasi maabala mo lang sya once you stop. pahihirapan mo rin syang lumipat sa ibang lane para ma-overtake ka. baliktarin mo na lang ang sitwasyon. lets say ur on the right lane at may dyip na gustong pumasok sa lane mo kasi magbababa ng pasahero. hindi ba nakakainis yung di ka pinalusot at inabala ka pa kesa sana pinalusot ka na lang at wala pa sanang naabala? aside from road rules or right of way, let's practice road courtesy na rin.

    very well said coiter!

As always, put yourself into their shoes. Yan ang lagi kong ginagawa at ini-isip, kung ako ang nakasakay sa motor, "sana naman pagbigyan ako ng malalaking auto sa kalsada."
and kung pwedeng kumaway ako to acknowledge and thank them for their courtesy, I do!

I hope some of you (who hardly read PitStop Forum) can help us with the upcoming effort to educate Public and Private drivers on the road about safety and road hazards, how to prevents accidents and defensive driving.
