nope. the stars are buying Priuses in their own free will as do a lot of 'mericans (wait time from day of order is 6 months i think).

because they want to look like they care about the environment. Alam mo naman ang ibang stars, kahit ano gagawin para maka appeal lang sa masa. Mga hipocrite is you ask me. how many times do they really opt to drive that fugly car? They pollute the environment more than any other by using their high-end cars in regular basis and flying coast to coast.

Pero hindi dapat ako mag-reklamo about this. Kse habang may naniniwala na may abnormality sa global warming >>> may funding sa research >>> may job security ako, hehehe.

City 60 mpg. 48 mpg. (Prius)
Highway 51 mpg. 47 mpg. (Civic)

the worst thing is that they actually charter jets so they can fly somewhere in comfort...and burn thousands of gallons of avgas to transport 1 solitary person....then jump into their prius and feel good about doing their share to protect the environment :bwahaha:

top gear's comment is true in europe, where diesels are highway-tuned and available for many different types of cars. unfortunately such cars as the bmw alpina diesel are not available here

here are the average prices from last week:
gas:$1.91
diesel:$2.02

reasons why diesel cars are miniscule in the US:
1.low specific power
2.objectionable noise
3.higher exhaust emissions
4.more exhaust smoke
5.higher vehicle price
6.most do not meet stingent US emission standards (US Tier 2 ULEV-- regulation is for 0.07g of nitrogen oxides and 0.01g of particulates per mile while Europe's regs are less stringent at 0.4 NOx and 0.04 particulates
7.less fuel efficiency compared to hybrid engines

Diesel Vehicle market share in the US: 3.6%

and another reason is that few gas stations in the states carry diesel. diesel is used mostly by big rigs so it's mostly sold in truck stops
