*My honest review citing all the faults*

With all other variables concluded as this was the high-end for the model; price compared to Fortuner/Montero 2016 base - high-end, the toplandre exec plus is really appealing.

We went ahead and tested the water. Biggest selling point is the US CUMMINS engine, from car shows, magazine and reviews CUMMINS engine is held with high regards.

Now this model is equipped with 7'in Infotainment system that runs android (as in malaki, mapapatingin talaga mga katabi naming SUVs lalo na pag night time city drive). Sound quality is good (IMO personal pref)

Problem encountered with the infotainment touch screen:
*Biglang lumalakas pag umaarangkada, say volume is 5 magiging 10 for (2-4 secs) before returning to 5
Solutions = tweak the EQUALIZER forgot the settings but just tweak it.
*Nag hang siya ng matagal (I think buggy OS) Nag materialized sya with our 10,000km run with it
Solutions = CASA replacement Sta. Rosa sa Chevrolet, they changed it and now comes with upgraded OS. Now fixed included pa sa warranty(waited for 2-3hours intallation)

Were now running on 18,000 - 20,000km, and I'd say, SWABE na sya ngayon.

Engine really good, arangkada? No problem. Kung lakas and hatak, overtaking? I'd rate comparable sa Fortuner / Montero kung baga may laban. He used to drive MIT Adventure GLS sport 2005 (passenger lang ako, and tatay ko pro-driver close to 10+ yrs exp. engine breaking master sa overtaking, and believe me when i say overtaking, he loves overtaking hindi naman kaskasero mararamdaman mo smooth pasok niya, basta)

Travel destination that the unit reached: Quezon - Catanauan - Manila - Bulacan - Vigan - Pagudpud - Isabela - Tuguegarao - Santa Ana Cagayan -

Problem encountered with the engine. (wag kayo kabahan)
*While running, nag leak bigla yung sa ATF fluid, bigla bumigat bute na lang close na kami sa Batangas so diretso sa CASA mileage around 4,000km.
Solutions = In fairness sa FOTON brand i think this was caused after ng 1,000km check siguro mechanics fault ito not tightening the hoses.

Aircon, front seats driver and passenger no problem. It was the placement of the rear aircon that got me a little off (placed on passenger side of the 3rd row). Aircon at rear has Fan Low Mid High (Mid and High settings malakas na ang buga)
Solutions = e set yung vents upward and direction going to drivers seat side.

Were now running on 18,000 - 20,000km, and I'd say malamig siya everytime na bubuksan ko para e greet or kunin ung bagahe nila. Laking lamig dun sa gamit ko na our old Adventure 2005(point of comparison).

Transmission, Clutch, Shifting, Shifter and Brake after driving it for around 40km eco road. From my exp smooth ang response, happy to say no problem pa na na eexp (pedals responsiveness vary by personal taste and preferences). Shifter I'd say comfortable naman while shifting, no hassle sken.

Body build. Lets just leave it at "iba iba naman tayo ng pananaw tungkol kung alin ang quality and medyo cheap feel" so cant rate this.

    Hood pops hydraulically.

    Headlights. No problem.

    This model comes with DRL

Forgot kung ano na Konsumo per run will update pag na check ko.

Sarap pa lagyan ng Top-rack / Top load, pero mahal haha

Conclusion: From a Chinese brand bash all you want pero got to admit, they've come a long way in terms of vehicle manufacturing. Kung magkakatabi ang latest/old model Fortuner, Montero, Everest at Toplander (hindi nagbubuhat ng sariling bangko) may appeal din ang toplander. Parts availability? I think theyre setting up plant somewhere in pampanga, so thats something. These are also assembled here in the PH so that might be something. Theyre Chinese brand weve tested the waters and found it really ok, for the price no pressure kami compare to the high end of other SUVS with almost the same features. sa safety features pa google na lang po. TY

Other Toplander owner sama sama tayo sa hirap at ginhawa

I saw a white one on the way to work... Here are my observations:

    1. The stance is nice! Legit
    2. I thought it was a Trailblazer when I saw its front fascia.
    3. When I made a second look, I thought the rear has some kind of resemblance to the first gen of Fortuner.
    4. Maybe it was the rain, but the paint looked pale (again, it was a white one).

There... I didn't see much as I was driving. It's an intriguing option knowing that it can be had for less than 1M Pesos.

I've just driven my father-in-law's toplander yesterday.
    I think engine-wise, it's okay.

However, there are some small things (but annoying) that I noticed.
    1. rear-view mirror is vibrating. (nakakahilo ttumingin)
    2. moist inside the headlights
    3. remote lock is not working (maybe remote battery is dead)
    4. prone to gasgas yung interior plastics

For a pure utilitarian, yes I think toplander is okay.
But for someone with at least a little car enthusiast in him, no.

Yung rear view mirror kahit flat surface yung dinadaanan naalog pa rin, or sa uneven lang? Pero mukhang I can live with the minor issues.

Kasabay ng pag-vibrate ng makina, so pag naka-off lang hindi vibrate.
Basta i-test drive mo sir before ka bumili.
For me, honestly, i'll get the mobilio instead.

Yes sir, i agree with you.
I was just saying what I would do if it's my money.
Every time I ride/drive the Toplander, it would always give me the impression of "1 million pesos na ito??"

Whew, tagal ko na palang di nakabalik dito, hehe. It's my Toplander's 1st year and 2 months already. So I'll give you guys my own unbiased experience of the Foton Toplander 4x2 Standard.

Aesthetics - For the price (below 1M), I cannot complain on the looks, in and out is superb. Though I had to dispose of the free seat cover (cloth), I changed it to german leather and 3M floor mat custom fit (since no available actual fit for the Toplander) thanks Leather 1 for the discount. The interior plastics are more presentable than the previous interior plastics of foton (comparing it with my previous Blizzard), it looks more solid and presentable but not as good as the Toyotas and other Jap Cars. The interior color combination is also good, though the ceiling is prone to dirt due to its material.

Comfort: The ride of the Toplander is indeed better than some Japanese SUVs due to its 5 link suspension (compared to Fortuner's 4 link suspension). The cabin size is spacious compared to other Japanese SUVs, with its leg space and headroom noticeably bigger than most SUVs, 2nd row seat can accommodate 3 large passengers easily and comfortably. 3rd row seat is also very good, a standard sized adult (5'7" to 5'9" can sit comfortably with knee room). AC is Topnotch! Can cool the interior in seconds even on hot weather (noon time), though the 2nd row has no assigned AC vent (still depending on the front vent), the 3rd row seat has a separate vent with control (which is a plus). The compartment is roomy when the 3rd row seat is folded, thanks to its design wherein the seats folds flat on the compartment floor, unlike some SUVs that are still protruding when folded and some are just on the side (which eats up cabin space).

Performance: Cummins engine is very responsive! So far, top speed that I was able to reach was 170KPH (TPLEX - 5 adults plus bags). Torque was also very good, tested it going uphill to baguio and it was a breeze engaging even on traffic. Only thing I notice was the 2nd gear going 3rd gear seems a little off in terms of the gear ratio, I feel that there was a little drag or probably (turbo) lag (just my own opinion), they could have tweaked it more to give it a little push if the tranny was designed differently. NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) is ok for me, though if you are about to reach your PMS due, NVH is bordering from Good to Poor.

Minor complains that I have are the paint job (very bad), poor visibility at night due to low grade headlamp, foglamp has no use when fog is present, stereo for the base model sucks, speakers sounds cheap, 17" rims wherein most SUVs are using 18" rims already. Minimal to no available aftermarket upgrades.

Previous issues that I have (High FC) has been fixed already, thanks to the Chief mechanic of Foton Balintawak, they escalated my concerns sa Main Plant in Clark, so they sent an ECU specialist to look into my concern and remap the ECU for FREE! Now, I average 8-9KM/L on City driving. And hit 12.56KM/L during my round trip to Lucena.

    My next project would be:
    - 7" LCD 2DIN Stereo
    - Backup Camera
    - Visit Speedlab for the UniChip install
