SUV on Steroids: Ford's new Explorer Sport is ready to play
Words by Jose Carlo Roberto R. Sapera | Photos courtesy of Ford Motor Company

If you're a fan of Ford's all-new Explorer, here's something that will tickle your fancy. Meet the blue oval brand's latest SUV on steroids, the all-new Explorer Sport - Ford's answer to the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and Dodge Durango R/T.

A turbocharged 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 blasts out 350 horses and 475 Nm under the hood, which is 60 hp and 130 Nm more than the standard V6. The steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifts give you full control over the six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission while you blast into oblivion. The engineers at Ford also modified the chassis and suspension to cope with the extra power, and upgraded the brakes with larger and thicker rotors so that it'll hopefully stop before you unwittingly hit a wall.....

Wish they'd be a bit more aggressive. While 350 hp is more than enough for a truck of that size, the Explorer chassis can handle 400-500 hp easily.

Or does the simple "Sport" badge mean there's a "Racing Sport" coming up?

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

The big question is how much power the rear PTO (power take off) unit can take.

Might be around 3+m, if it ever comes here. Doubt it will. The V6 is already quick enough for local roads.

I should also add in that having a V6 in Metro Manila driving is actually an overkill... especially if you drive by EDSA everyday

The local spec Explorer Limited 4WD which comes with the optional Polished wheels costs $41K+ in the US, its sold here for P2.37M. The Explorer Sport will probably be priced in the upper mid 40's in the US.
I think Ford Philippines could sell it here for under P3M if they decided to bring it in.
