The fate of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is still up in the air while Subaru has yet to announce, much less hint at, if and when the all-new Impreza WRX STI will debut. But if you're still in the market for a compact performance car, you only need to wait a year or two as Ford has revealed it will be bringing its Focus ST hot hatch to Asia and North America for the very first time.

"For enthusiasts in North America and Asia who have asked why our compact performance models were not available to them, well, the wait is almost over," said Jost Capito, Ford's director of Global Performance Vehicles. "The new Focus ST will offer exactly the same exciting driving experience wherever it's on sale."

According to Ford, the all-new Focus ST is Ford's first global performance car, conceived under the One Ford strategy. It will also be the first time Ford will bring the ST performance badge to North American and Asian customers after limiting its sale to the European and Australian/New Zealand markets since it debuted in 2002.

Ford's Team RS and SVT engineering teams are currently putting a fleet of approximately 60 pre-production prototypes based on the standard new Focus vehicles and previous-generation Focus ST models through a regime of testing and development to fine-tune the car's driving dynamics and performance.

Powering the Focus ST is a high-performance version of Ford’s new 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that puts out 246hp while still delivering significantly better fuel economy than the previous generation Focus ST sold in Europe.

"The new Focus ST is eagerly awaited around the world, which is appropriate as this is our first global performance model," added Capito. "It must live up to Ford's reputation for producing affordable yet exciting and sporty versions of its smaller cars that reward and delight enthusiast drivers, but can also be used every day."

Do you see yourself trooping over to the nearest Ford dealership once this hits our shores?

Hopefully it'll be lighter than the current one.

Hmmm... A 2 liter turbocharged dual clutch (hopefully) Focus? Do want.

Make mine Imperial Blue, please. With 18-inch RS wheels.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Maybe, but i'm fine with the standard 6-speed manual.

but if this comes with P2M circa, this would be the best alternative to the evo and sti. hope it does really come at that price tag.
