Hello! The Focus TDCi looks great and I enjoyed a test drive yesterday. Great solid feel and I like that it's supposedly very fuel efficient. I'm leaning towards getting a sedan TDCi (unless the hatch's luggage space is enough for me, I love the way it looks).

Some questions would be great, but I know we're a bit biased to what we own so please be honest in answering them

    1. I drive very matipid. What's your fuel consumption in city and highway driving?
    2. How does the car handle a fully loaded car (performance, does the car sink, fuel consumption)
    3. How is maintenance of the car? (cost, hassles, durability of the car)
    4. What quirks have you found in the car?
    5. What are the best AND worst things you find about the car (i.e. PROS AND CONS)?

Your honest and unbiased input would be most appreciated

    Thank you!

Hi! I drive a Focus TDCi Sport Hatchback with the Getrag Powershift Dual Clutch Tranny. We actually have two of them and they are really nice cars.

here are my responses to your questions:

As per the luggage space i think the hatch has more than enough trunk space.

    1. I drive very matipid. What's your fuel consumption in city and highway driving?

Fuel consumption is really good. city driving i think you can get at least 15km/L which I think isnt possible for its petrol powered rivals. I think the best I got from that car in highway driving is about 21 - 23km/L.
    2. How does the car handle a fully loaded car (performance, does the car sink, fuel consumption)

The car handles well even when fully laden and the massive torque from the engine is more than enough to pull you from standstill. Of course your fuel consumption will be sacrificed if its fully loaded. but i think the worse consumption youll get will be about 12km/L.

    3. How is maintenance of the car? (cost, hassles, durability of the car)

maintenance is a bit high I think. Our cars are serviced by Ford Global and cost around 4k per visit which includes service parts and labor. Engine Oil is not included in the 4k as I provide my own engine oil.

    4. What quirks have you found in the car?

we had one big problem with the other car. the transmission broke down. it got stuck in a gear and doesnt want to shift at all. if you restart the engine it will work ok again then later on it will get stuck again. it seems like a glitch in the tranny's Electronic Control Unit (ECU) but Ford replaced entire tranny under warranty. so no need to worry. i suggest that if you get a focus, you better avail the extended warranty as well for your peace of mind.

    5. What are the best AND worst things you find about the car (i.e. PROS AND CONS)?

best thing in this car is the engine and gearbox. i dont think anything in its class cant beat its torque and fuel economy. also its handling is really nice. ride is a bit on the stiff side but its ok. its got lesser toys and gizmos than some its rivals. LAstly I think there will be a new Focus coming soon as it was already launched in the US i think.

Honestly we are happy with the focus. lets wait for the comments of other TDCi owners out there.

Thank you so much for the input!!

Last question, how is the fit and finish of the car? I mean, like rattles and the buttons, handles and knobs etc, I hate it if they pop off or something. We had a trooper and I loved it but I was so annoyed with the buttons popping off, and the rattles.

I believe they offer to extend the warranty to 5 years

Starex_Gold > You have a Tucson Diesel right? Could you give me unbiased and honest figures on your fuel consumption (city and highway)?

the switches and knobs in the Focus have this chunky well built feel(probably because the focus was designed in europe) so I think you dont have to worry about it. as for the other trimmings so far nothing fell off the car yet =)

I think the transmission problem was a one-off case. We have two Focus TDCi Sport and that problem occurred only on one car and not both of them.

this was the first case reported to Ford Philippines about this tranny problem and they even reported it to Getrag Germany, their supplier of the Powershift gearbox. So far its been 4months now since they replaced the tranny and its working properly.

Extended warranty for Ford Cars is 5 years.

Thank you talaga for your inputs bro

So the whole thing and the interior feels well built even after all this time? It's a pet peeve of mine to have creaking and rattling in the car eh I'd really like that solid and well-built feeling!

Did you do any modifications to any of your Focuses? Like mags, engine stuff or anything?

    joe,
City - 9-10 km/l depending on traffic conditions. Sometimes it drops to 7 km/l if bumper to bumper traffic + 3 bars aircon + a bit of heavy foot.

Highway naman, 12-14 km/l cruising speed 120-140 kph. Pero nagawa ko mag 5.5 l/100 km or 18 km/l cruising speed 100 kph.

Input from Focus TDCi owners please
