Ford Philippines adds the Focus 1.6 m/t to the Focus line-up. It has rotary airconditioning switches (1.8 and 2.0 has dual-zone), driver's airbag, moquette fabric, smaller rims, no fog-lights. it is powered by a 116-hp engine. They didnt specify the price yet.

They should have released this along time ago and it could have helped uplift the lackadaisical Focus sales. I do prefer having the automatic transmission with it though.

Anemic? How was the test drive?

Mahina ang sales? Any new statistics for the sales of the Focus? The last time I checked, the sales of the 1.8L and 2.0L is VERY strong considering the 900K+ pricetag.

hmmn. i prefer the thick stick as it's probably easier to modulate. you don't have to grab it by the neck anyway. yun nga lang, parang under powered. still, if euro chic is your thing, this is probably the cheaper alternative.

the US market still has the old USDM-spec Focus.

while yung andito ay yung Euro-spec (lucky us).

you will be surprised to know that the 2005+ 4-cylinder duratec engines are based on MZR engines. so it's the reverse -- the old duratec's are the rehashed ones.

The Mazda Z engine family is an evolution of the B family. It started with 2.0 L and 2.3 L variants found in the Mazda3, Mazda Mazda6 and Ford Ranger. For 2004, Ford dropped its own Zeta Zetec engines in favor of Mazda's, naming the resulting engine the Duratec 20 and Duratec 23.

Confusingly, Mazda also sells Ford's Sigma Zetec (which is unrelated to both the Zeta and Mazda Z family) as the MZI. The MZ-CD Diesel is also unrelated to the rest of the Z family.

Yup, thats true for the bigger inline-4 Duratec engines(2.0 and 2.3), they are based on MZR engines...

But the smaller Duratecs are original Ford engines based on the old Zetec.
Ford's two 1.6 liter Duratecs found in the euro Focus for example are true "Ford" engines.
Its a different case for the local Focus 1.6.
I checked out the Focus 1.6 Trend displayed a few weeks ago at Gateway Mall....
The sales guy kept on saying it had a Ford engine but not a Duratec(which he wasn't even sure of), so I checked the specs on the stand...
The Focus 1.6 Trend's engine capacity is 1598 cc
    Has a max Power 105 PS * 6000 rpm
and Max torque 145 Nm * 4000 rpm

This only means one thing... (see engine specs below)....

Euro market 2006 Ford Focus's two 1.6 liter engines...
    Duratec 1.6L
    Number of cylinders 4, In-line
    Engine capacity 1596 cc
    Number of valves 16 DOHC
    Fuel Petrol, Injection by cylinder
    Bore 79.0 mm
    Stroke 81.4 mm
    Compression ratio 11.0
    Max Power 74 kW (100.6 PS) * 6000 rpm
    Max torque 150 Nm * 4000 rpm

    Duratec 1.6L "Ti-VCT"
    Number of cylinders 4, In-line
    Engine capacity 1596 cc
    Number of valves 16 DOHC
    Fuel Petrol, Injection by cylinder
    Bore 79.0 mm
    Stroke 81.4 mm
    Compression ratio 11.0
    Max Power 85 kW (115.6 PS) * 6000 rpm
    Max torque 155 Nm * 4150 rpm

    Mazda 3's 1.6 liter MZR...
    MZR 1.6L
    Number of cylinders 4, In-line
    Engine capacity 1598 cc
    Number of valves 16 DOHC
    Fuel Petrol, Injection by cylinder
    Bore 78.0 mm
    Stroke 83.6 mm
    Compression ratio 10.0
    Max Power 77 kW (105 PS) * 6000 rpm
    Max torque 145 Nm * 4000 rpm

The RP Focus 1.6 uses an MZR and not a Duratec 1.6 like the Euro verson.... the MZR is bigger by 2cc and has 5 more PS than the Duratec 1.6(10 less than the Duratec Ti-VCT), but has 5Nm less torque(10 less than the Duratec Ti-VCT)

considering that they all roll off the same Sta. Rosa plant, that's pretty much expected.

why is it mazda always coughs up the wimpiest engines in its class. compare say the 323 and the AE101 corolla (4AFE). or the Lynx and the AE121 Altis 1.6. and now this... laging huli ang mazda, pinaka-low tech ang makina nila, and the least fuel-efficient.

but that said, 105ps while bordering on pathetic for the mazda3 (the only thing worse i can think of is the 90hp engine in the sentra 1.3GX AT) should be pretty acceptable on an MT focus.
