    Focus experts,

I'm planning to buy a used second car next year to be driven by my wife or by my son who's learning how to drive.
Any inputs on sedan model M/T 1.8 or 2.0? Meron ba 1.6L?
Ano difference nung 2008 sa 2009 model?
    Fuel consumption?
Any issues and what to look out for on second hand focus?
Ano karamihan nasisira agad for the sedan M/T?
How much price range ng 1.8 model which is my preferred choice? Meron daw around 365k for a 2009 model.

Need your inputs. Thanks in advance.

The 1.6 was sold only until (early?)2007, after a mild facelift, they upgraded the engine to a 125PS 1.8 Duratec (20PS and 20Nm more than the Mazda 1.6 engine in the old Trend MT)

In late 2008, Ford launched the Focus with the "Kinetic Design" Facelift.
    2009 Focus 1.8 Trend MT

More or less, both 1.8 liter models are mechanically the same.
I've only driven the 1.6 MT(one of the cars I drive regularly) and 1.8 AT(test drive), I haven't driven the 1.8 MT, but expect it to be quicker than the old 1.6 MT and 1.8 AT.

PS: The old 105PS 1.6 MT is ok, but extra power is welcome, specially when its loaded with passengers and you're going uphill.

    AG4,
Thanks for the reply. I'm more inclined to the 1.8 and maybe the kinetic design facelift if budget permits. Do you know the fuel consumption of the 1.8? Sana di matakaw. Any issues like suspension, electronics and transmission?

The 1.8 MT is actually lots of fun to drive. Just enough power (though you can still feel the weight at higher speeds).

No common trend to issues... most of the FCP members and forumers who own Focii own the 2.0. The biggest bugbears I can recall are CV Joints for the 2.0 AT and front suspension. Heavy car kasi.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

FC is around 11~14 km/L for the 1.8MT. I own and drive one. Really fun to drive. You get one not for FC but for the enjoyment of driving one. Loved the handling especially when cornering on paved roads whether up or down hills. If ever you decide to get one on stock, should get the mid 2010/11? upgraded model, the ones with the 16's. I find its ground clearance a bit higher than the ones with the 15's. It'll help you maneuver on the humps and ramps here.

If you want to feel a euro car which is not too pricey, the focus is the car for you. Driving and handling is superb, and mechanical power is stock form is way good enough (I can say).
My focus 2L can blast 200kph without hesitation. If you plan 1.8L, power is already enough, had some friend tested their stock 1.8 upto 180kph and the car still handles very good.
Parts, there's a lot of shops selling ford parts (aside from casa).

The late-2008/09 Focus 1.8 Trend MT can now be had for as low under P400K, the TDCi version of the same year costs around P700K+.
Maintenance of the petrol models is also low.

The 14 km/L I got on highway. From SLEX(alabang/susana) thru STAR tollway on ave. speed of 80~90 kph and tires at 35psig. The 11+ I average on normal provincial road traffic. Ave. speed of 70~80 kph. A/C always on minimum setting and tires at 35 psig. Odo at around 10k already. In computing FC I use the traditional method as the 1.8 MT doesn't have a trip/FC computer. If on purely city drive I expect it to be around 10 km/L at best. 1.8 AT indeed lower due to weight and a higher idle speed. On MT early gearshifts also help. The 1.8L engine has enough torque anyway so it helps too. Pero most of the time sarap pa din harurot mode. Hehehe.

The price for the sedan looks good to me. Ok sana ang TDCI pero mahal siya for me. I'll settle for the sedan. Will look around when I get home march next year. Madami na siguro used units by that time kasi may bagong Focus na.

ginamit ko po kanina sa laguna san pedro then pansol... then nag paikot ikot sa san pedro at pansol... yung focus namin 1.8A/T.... nag ave. ako sa TRIP/FC COMPUTER back and fort with city and highway driving na traffic pa ako ng more or less 2hrs... nasa 8liters per 100 kms mixed city and highway na po yan... may time pa tumaas pa ng 6.8liters per 100kms... Max RPM 2.3RPM... siguro sir nasa driver talaga ang dahilan kung bakit malakas sa fuel ang focus.... yung anak ko po kasi ang nag dadala ng focus namin MAY PAG KA HARUROT PO TUMAKBO... ngayon ko lang longdrive and reset yung FC/Meter kadalasan po kasi gamit namin eh van pag out of town trips... i ave. sa SLEX BETWEEN 80-100KPH lang po... ang ave. speed is 22kph... matipid din naman po pala pag HIGHWAY DRIVING...

Good day mga sir, follow up question lang po tungkol sa Ford Focus, bakit po kaya ganun ka mura ang resale value ni Focus i saw in adds that 2008 model it price for only 368k, ganun ba talaga ang resale value ng Ford Focus? even if it's in good running condition? o kaya ganun ang price kasi sirain o mahal ang parts and maintenance?Bad FC ba? Plan ko rin kasi bumili ng Ford Focus kaya naghingi din ng inputs galing sa inyo mga experts. Thanks in advance.

IMO.. isang dahilan mas mura din kasi ang bnew ng focus compare sa iba... kaya mas mababa din ang resale value...

    then ford kasi...

pag dating sa fc pag highway driving matipid ang gas na focus... pero pag city driving malakas po talaga....

compare to other models in the same class mas masarap gamitin ang focus...
