IMO the lack of trunk release is a big deal lalo na kung nasa Manila ka. Lalabas ka sa Focus mo everytime may security check sa mall, office parking, airport, etc.

yup definitely. well not unless if you're going to take off the cover inside the car. with my campershell I don't let the guards open the rear but they are able to see what's inside.

Nice, comfortable, unbeatable sound insulation, suspension and steering (even the upcoming Civic is said to be softer in terms of handling, but the Mazda3 is slightly sharper). Engine is powerful enough, manumatic transmission is a good feature, especially with our traffic.

Gas consumption is typical for a heavy car with a 2.0 and an automatic. Owners report that fuel economy improves a lot once the engine has been broken in (after 5000km) and if you know how to use the manumatic.

    Featurewise:
+rear aircon vents and dual climate control
    +moonroof
+leather seats with cloth inserts (the inserts help hold you in place)
+lifetime sealed coolant system (non-water based)
    +pedestrian-friendly floppy wipers

    -gas tank opens from outside
-trunk opens from outside (but as noteworthy says, just take off the trunk cover when you go to the mall so guards can just look through the glass)
-ped-friendly wipers can only be bought at casa

IMHO, it's worth it as an alternative to more expensive cars, as it gives you a lot of that "European feel". Fully loaded, it's almost like buying a 318 or an A4 1.8, as the sound suppression, ride and stability are much like an Audi or Volvo, and handling is very good (not as good as BMW, but much better than you expect from a front-wheel drive car).

I forgot to check out when I took the Focus for the test drive is the adjustable steering. I found out that it's a feature on Ford Focus, that you could make the steering light or heavy.

    1) What's the 0-60 and 0-100 kph?
    2) Gas mileage (city, highway & combined)?
    3) Is the 2.0L engine & auto tranny the same as the Mazda 2.0R?
    4) Does the front & rear fog lights have separate switches?

The 14kg heavier Focus 2.0 A/T sedan (not sold here) has a 0-100km/h(0-62mph) acceleration time of 10.7 secs, more or less it takes about the same time for the 5-door Focus 2.0 Sport A/T to hit 100 km/h.

I'm not sure about the transmission, but as far as I know the 2 engines are basically the same, but are tuned differently, and in some cases have different heads, variable valve timing systems etc.
These engines were developed by Mazda with the help of Ford.

Ford's 2.0 Duratec produces 145 PS while the Mazda 3's similar MZR produces 141PS.
*A newer 150 PS version of the 2.0 MZR with variable valve timing is available in other countries.

*the 1.8 and 2.3 liter Duratecs are also based on the MZR.

Of-topic: The 105 PS 1.6 liter engine of the local Focus Trend appears to be the same as the 1.6 MZR of the Mazda 3(some parts even have Mazda stickers).
In Europe the 1.6 of the Focus although labled as a Duratec, is actually an updated version of the old Ford Zetec engine. The european 1.6 Duratec comes in 2 versions, the standard 102 PS version and the Ti-VCT(Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) version with 115 PS.

RE: 0-100 km/h times. They've been timed between 9.5 - 11, depending on the driver.

0-60 km/h... errh.. no one tests those.

Too bad we don't get the 2.3 liter version here...

...and we'll probably never have one...
Currently only the USDM Focus(facelifted Mk1 Focus) has a 2.3 liter Duratec.

The only gasoline engine that sits above the Mk2 Focus' 145PS 2.0 liter engine is the 220PS Volvo-based turbocharged inline-5 of the new Focus ST.
