    I need some help over here. Had this ranger 4wd for two years na. All this time, the clutch is quite hard and often times the gearstick is hard to engage particularly the 1st and 2nd gears. Had complained these several times wiht the Ford dealer where we got the unit and after almost 6 visits, its the same problem. They had replaced the clutch master assy but still the problem persisted. I think there is something wrong with the whole clutch system but the dealership somehow refuse to deal with the issue. Anybody got any idea or advise. The unit is running for 22t km mileage for two years now and I don't think the clutch system is due for replacement this early yet. Unless there is a defect somewhere or somehow. HELP

    Ganyan din iyung nabangit na problem ng kakilala ko na naka 4x4 ranger...I believe it is a possible design problem inherent to rangers. Why not try bringing it to other ford dealers? Sang ford dealer mo ba iyan nabili?

    Is your Ranger still under warranty? If yes, then demand from them to solve it. A demand letter from a lawyer may speed things up a bit. Direct your letter to the head of Ford Philippines :D If out of warranty then like wildthing has said, try bringing it to other Ford dealers. I hope this helps. Goodluck.

    Tiags nag din yung sa Ranger ko pero mas matigas kasi yun sa kotse ko kaya sanay na. ;)

    Maybe you can try changing the gear oil. It might help solve the hard shifting. Higher spec gamitin mo, like 75W o 85W/90 fully synthetic gear oil na GL6 or GL7 rated. Mobil 1 OK.

    Yung sa clutch I think ganun na talaga yun eh.

    IMHO the Ranger's tranny really feels agricultural (clunky and noisy) while shifting.

    There was a similar unit that was delivered to the distributor at same time as mine and it was bought by my office mate (it was a demo unit) and had its clutch system replaced at around 50t km mileage when the owner complained re: the stiff/slipping clutch. Fortunately, it was still under warranty. My warranty ended October and for the last time, I complained and hope they would do something. Still nothing. Now, its a heavy burden and unfair if I replaced it myself considering its mileage (22+t only). The unit was bought in Davao and I think its the only dealer in Mindanao. If there is one possibly in Cagayan, its almost 300 km away. Next optiion would be cebu and its farther away.

    Even if I am out of warranty, Im thinking of writing direct to Ford Philippines. I think it maybe a design problem considering the coincidence of the other unit mentioned above. If so, I hope Ford will somehow look deeper and rectify the situation. Otherwise, they might just look the other way. Thinking of Mitsubishi hidden recalls makes me wonder if they are really going to do something fair and honest about it.

    To Afrasay:
    If its the pressure plate, please expound if it also affects the other components: clutch disk; release bearing etc., such that the whole system needs to be replaced this early (only 22+t km mileage) due to normal wear and tear or rather its a defective system that results to hard clutching. By the way, I can live with it considering I have been driving older and second-hand cars/pickups (volkswagen, escort, courier, mazda b2200's) with even harder clutch. What I cannot bear is its pretty hard to disengage and engage the gearstick when the clutch starts to act up specially in relatively high traffic situations.

    After the warranty period just this November, I had all gear oils checked (ie., front and rear drive axles, differential, transmission and transfer case). I had the transmission and differential oils drained and it was replaced by a Mobil 75W/90 oil (sabi nung mechanic since it was from a bulk overhead tank at Mobil express). Still its the same problem. I agree with you that its tranny has lots of clunking even under neutral.


    TO ALL OF YOU WHO RESPONDED; Thanks for the comments and advise. Please keep on going if you have some more inputs. Its kind of frustrating but somehow I find relief in your comments.

    TO THOSE WHO ARE OUT THERE THAT HAD THE SAME THING GOING ON WITH THEIR RANGERS, Please share your experiences or should I say your predicaments. Somehow, we might have an effective solution that will not cost too much. Until now, Im still paying the high amortization for this brand new pickup thinking that it would spare me the relatively higher maintenance costs of second-hand units. But then, its a mistake pala to buy a unit thats not noted for reliability and durability, only for power and built-tough kuno.

    try replacing the flexible hose, if its hydraulically operated. it happens sa brake systems, some hose becomes restricted and age prematurely.

    If you really want to keep your ranger and you can bear with conversions at hydraulic ang clutch system mo, install a vacuum assisted clutch master at super lambot clutch mo! parang sa mga elf trucks and nissan patrols.

    Parang pang truck na yan vacuum assisted pero I agree super lambot yan.

    The symptoms of pressure plate wear is hard/sticky shifting and heavy clutch pedal. If the hard shifting is on one particular gear, ex. 1st, then it must be the synchronizers in the tranny. I think Mazda's and Ford's have similar if not the same clutch parts.

    afrasay::: sinabo mo nung mapalitan ko last oct. pressure plate, clutch disc and konting reface sa flywheel, laki ng inilambot ng clutch ko. :D :D :D

    truck na nga dating ng naka hydrovac na clutch. hehe. 8) . isa yan sa options ko :idea: when im repairing my clutch, use straight replacement parts pag matigas parin, i will install vacuum assist sa clutch( sacrifice nga lang ang originality :lol: ). but i used original parts instead, mahal pero no regrets! :D :D


    sir otep::: talagang naparanoid ka na sa mga delivery boys( isuzu)!! ha? hehe. :lol: :lol:

    it puzzled me rin kasi :?: at 22,000kms ng ranger bumigay na agad ang clutch and tranny :?: at least around 60T-70Tkms man lang, kung di clutch driver ang gagamit. :roll:

    To: Otomatic: For now I'll keep the unit stock and no conversion as to the clutch system. Who knows, there might be something wrong with the whole tranny set-up. I have just wrote and sent a letter of complain to Ford Davao with e-mail ccs to Ford Makati and Ford Phil. I'm asking extended warranty in consideration of the several complains of the same nature (hard clutch pedal and sticky gearstick) over the two-year life of the unit. If they do not something to rectify the problem, that may be the time I have to think of conversions. For now, I hope they will do something. By the way, can you define clutch-driving or clutch-riding? Been driving for more than 20 years using second-hands and brand-new cars, AUVs' and pick-ups but this is the first time I got to drive a relatively new hard clutching unit (its quite natural for older second-hands). Maybe I'm guilty of clutch driving specially in heavy, stop and go traffic situations (where short bumper to bumper distances can inadvertently lead you to delay the clutch release so you can readjust/upshift/dowshift gears). Just want to know if that could have significantly lead to early repairs on the clutch system of this unit.

    To: Afrasay: During one of my visits when I told them about the hard clutching, the technician told me that its normal for Ford Rangers to hesitate gearing because it only has one forward synchronizer and it's found on the second gear only. Is this true? In other brands where there are tranny description, sometime it says fully-synchronize or syncromesh ???. The one from Ford ranger never mentioned about this and so I suppose its different from other brands. Do you think this difference (between a fully-syncronize and this single synchronizer thing) would have made a big difference in the smoothness of gear shifting? Before I bought this unit, I test drove Nissan Frontier and Mitsu Strada 4WDs' and admittedly they had smoother gearshifting and softer clutch. I thought this one from Ford would eventually smoothen after some use. Well, guess I'm wrong.

    redranger::: goodluck! and i hope ford will act fast on your complain.

    a clutch driver is a driver who developed a habit of resting his foot on the clutch pedal rather on the floor or on the footrest even in a non heavy traffic situation. this bad driving habit adds burden to the clutch system especially to the release bearing, pressure plate's diaphragm/finger and etc. resulting to premature clutch wear such as hardening of clutch pedal, dragging, worst burnt clutch lining and slipping.

    since you mentioned the first time you got your brand new ranger it already had a hard clutch pedal feel, then its the ranger's clutch system design at fault, which will become harder as the unit gets more mileage.

    Graabeee??!! naman yan , eh 1970s pa uso yan fully synchronize / synchromesh technology. Even yun mga Dodge colt / Galant (naku nabuking na naman edad ko... :roll: )synchromesh na. Bakit yun neighbor ko naka B2200 na pickup wala naman problem sa shifting and pedal pressure? :wink:

    I drive a B2500 4x4, 99 model I believe tha last year it came out before it was rebadged as the Ranger. Never had any problems with the clutch system, maayos naman ang shifting and odo reading is now 56T kms. Although I dont know if the Rangers clutch system is the same as the B2500.
