This is one of the reasons why I chose the lancer ex over the focus. Aside from the very small interior space, the transmission is buggy in stop n go traffic. Gusto ko pa naman sana ng hatch.

Yup, summation ng likes versus the price. There are cases that 100k difference cannot buy some features for convenience & safety like EBD, stability control... Some can buy but with hazzles & inconveniences.

Unlike the old Fiesta, the Focus Powershift and New Fiesta Powershift have +/- manual shift function via a rocker button on the shifter.
Ford also updated/improved the software of the Powershift transmission in the newer models for smoother shifting compared to the early Fiesta Powershift models.

PS: Only the lower-end Fiestas like the Trend and base Style (now called Ambiente) have a manual option, the Fiesta Sport is Powershift-only.

Is the 6PS really that bad? As in un-livable to merit a 'not-buy' from some people here? Are we talking bout personal experience? Cause if not, this is a bit unfair for Ford, IMO.

Yes, it's from personal experience. I have the trend. Despite all the update and 8K on my odo, it's a clunky transmission. And the casas cannot do anything about it (Libis and Global) DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!

thanks sir ericc for saying that straight to the point. may iba pa po ba kayo marerecommend, na papantay sa focus? internal, external? ex is also one of my option before, kaso di ko lang nagustuhan dashboard, and i think medyo matagal na rin design nya.

    ang hirap naman

kakabasa ko lang ng reply nyo boss ag4. ibig sabihin po ba mas ok na ang transmission ng focus nowadays? nagbasa ako ulit sa net and ang dami reklamo sa transmission.but i suppose those were older versions?

im about to get mine next week, nagdadalawang isip ako gusto ko na magback out.

sa mga nakapag test drive po nito, or owners, ano po ba masasabi nyo.

The current gen Focus should already be updated, according to local reviews it's an improvement over the one in the old Fiesta Powershift, but supposedly it still isn't as smooth as the "less fuel efficient" torque converter automatics used by most of its competitors.
If you read owner's feedback from America, it might sound a bit more exaggerated because many of them are not accustomed to how a manual transmission shifts, most of them are familiar with the torque converter automatics.
If you want smoother shifting with your Powershift transmission, I guess you can always use the +/- manual mode.

I'm assuming you did not test drive the car. You should test drive the car first before you decide to backout.
I'd recommend a manual transmission, but the only New Focus with a manual transmission is the Ambiente which has steel wheels with covers and no additional features like the voice activated Microsoft SYNC system, steering wheel mounted controls and front fog lights.

PS: The Lancer EX is near the end of its model cycle, its replacement might be unveiled or previewed (maybe as a concept) next year.

Actually, the Focus is really a bargain. In Europe, it is pitted in the likes of these cars.

Hi Ysabel, back out now while you can. I have the trend. Ok siguro if your drive is always on highways but if you live in the city, imagine this: evrytime you stop the start going again, the car shakes. And when you're crawling, it also shakes. Sometimes it lunges suddenly. This car should be recalled. The trans of MK3 is way worse than the previous focus. Pls don't buy it. For ur sake. I can't recommend a better alternative but from what i'm experiencing with this car, BUY ANYTHING BUT THE FOCUS. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate ford, I love their escape. But this focus mk3 is a tragedy!

The focus is a very nice car. Its a little cramped compared to its competitors but performance and amenities are above par. If ur not bothered about the transmission, then its a good buy. The lancer has a simpler dash but i like that its functional and not as complicated as others. It also has the tech amenities other brands in the same level does not have like the touchscreen display with bluetooth, dvd, gps. Although the lancer ex isnt new, its design and appeal does not fade as quick as the others. It still looks good.

Maraming magagandang mapagpipilian in d compact category. Aside from the above, you cant go wrong with the altis and civic. Theres also the popular elantra and the expensive mazda3. It will all boil down to preference. Theres no best car in this group. They are all good cars.

boss aargh, did you get the chance to test drive the focus? is it really that problematic?

nagrequest na ko last week ng test drive, wala pa nga lang available, nag aantay pa ko sa update ng agent.

ambiente is also my choice before, dahil sa mga nabanggit ni boss ag4 napaupgrade ako sa trend.

sobrang excited ko pa naman na mailabas next week. hehe

boss ag4, since recommended mo manual, ibig sabihin talagang di pasado para sayo yung matic variant?

That's just my personal preference, I always go for a manual, actually everyone in my family does.
I currently drive a previous gen Mk2 Focus Trend MT.

If I were to get a new automatic car, i'd probably still go with a Powershift version of the New Focus or a New Fiesta.

I didnt notice it when i tested it but thats only for a couple of blocks around fort with no traffic. What turned me off was the lack of space. Parang mas maluwag pa interior ng vios. But thats probably due to the cockpit design of ford which makes it look cramped, rear legroom is also too small for me. When i did my research and found out abt the tranny problems was what clinched it for me. I still love the focus but it just wasnt for me. Kanya kanyang preference yan. If i were single, i would've gotten it with the manual tranny. Kaso i have a family na and si misis wants automatic so i had to look elsewhere.

According to the 5'11" tester, knee-room is really impressive... headroom is reasonable...
I guess that means a lot more room for people shorter than 5'11".

Im 5'11 and i read this review even before they released d focus here which got me excited. I dunno why but when i actually sat inside, it wasnt as big as i thought. Even si misis said she felt cramped inside. Our car then was the 2nd gen vios. Oh well, Im still a big focus fan though.

I see, for me, big enough is good enough as long as it has excellent handling, solid build and good NVH.

What's with good handling and solid build if the car shakes like a jeepney?
