April 25th, 2008 01:43 PM #1Hi Guys!
I've been reading tsikot forums for about a month now and have found it very useful in my quest for a 2nd hand SUV.
Anyway, I just registered recently and would like som advice on this...
I am planning to get a Ford Escape (2005 2.3L 2wd) but when I test drove it, parang kumakabig sa right. Actually napansin ko na parang hindi even (slightly uneven) yung hood niya, naka angat ng konti yung right side. This gave the the impression na baka nabangga na ito because its still quite new pero uneven na yung hood. My concern lang is ok kung nabangaa na pero basta hindi tinamaan yung chasis right? I heard that to check if the chasis is ok, I should inspect the area under question where the headlight is mounted and and check if its intact, if its not, hinila yung area na yun kaya possibleng tinamaan na yung chasis also, test drive daw to check kung kumakabig and so i did.
Findings:
Hindi nga intact yung are ng right headlights (parang nalukot then pinokpok ulit) and parang may kabig nga...
Anyway, I plan to have the escape checked by casa first before I finally purchase...
Can anyone helpme shed light on this matter?
Thanks!

you are right. probably nabangga na nga, although i cannot really say if it is until i see the unit.
pero yung kabig can also be caused by several factor like unaligned tires, camber, worn rod ends or bushings or even under-inflation of tires.
much better nga if you can have it checked muna sa casa.

Will have it checked tomorrow. I also read kase in one of the forums na may tendency talaga kumabig yung escape bec of heavy steering kaya pag uneven yung road, sumusunod yung steer. Di ko kase mapinta kung even din yung road e. Sa N. Domingo ko tinest-drive. Although back and forth it veers to the right.
Also, kumakabig siya after mga 8-10 seconds after I realeas my hands from the wheel...in other words, hindi agad-agad kumakabig.

Yup. Talagang sensitive yung steering ng mga Ford. And to add insult to injury, it's hard for some shops to align the steering properly. But get it checked just in case.

April 25th, 2008 03:27 PM #6Thanks niky,
Wala bang alignment services sa ford service centers? I so, then I guess I should bring it to a chasis specialist instead of the casa right?

The problem is: there's alignment and there's alignment. Some guys will align it to spec and call it a day without even test-driving it. Other guys understand the quirks of vehicles and will adjust the steering slightly off-spec to compensate. My car has had "kabig" on and off for years, now. Only a few shop people really know how to get it right... and it's a bit harder on Fords.
Small price to pay for good steering. But it's irritating till you find a suspension shop that knows its stuff.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Choosing one would depend on your driving and parking conditions. Do you have your own garage =...
