Yeah Alan Mulally decided to reduce their stake at Mazda (in line with his focus on the blue oval and Lincoln, he also axed Mercury) but its more on a financial position rather than technical one. They will still continue to have a strong relationship on the technical side...
And the local Ford owns the Mazda brand here so regardless of Ford Motor's stake with Mazda in the global scale the local Ford is still responsible for the Mazda brand here... So either they ax the Mazda 6 and replace it with the Mondeo, that could work... Just don't try to field 2 competing cars in a very small pie, you end up with nothing...
