Test drove a m/t ecosport yesterday. We were 4 inside. Napansin ko you need to rev at around 4k to get that feel na umaarangkada na. Also, antag-tag. We ran about 6 kms in commonwealth ave. I drive a pickup truck everyday so sanay ako sa matagtag.

Nagtest drive din ako last friday sa ford commonwealth. White trend mt yung test drive unit nila. Pero sulit talaga ang ecosport for the price.

Anyway.

Mas mabigat ang ecosport compared with the jazz & vios. Choices ko din ang jazz & vios. Ung jazz mabilis & tahimik. Ung vios reliable since marami available pyesa. kaso parehas na mababa. Mas lalo na ang hyundai accent hb.

Deal breaker sa akin is yung ride height. Dun advantage ng ecosport. Slow - yes dahil mabigat ito & important sa akin the car can get me from point a to b. Some areas may not be passable for cars but can be with crossovers & suvs.

I'm taking risk now since I'll be having the ecosport for 7 yrs. Company car plan kasi. Mine is MT.

I tried test driving the ecosport last april during their MOA test drive event. I dont know pero di ko naman naramdaman na parang under powered or mabagal sya though 3 lang kami sa loob ng sasakyan. If we were 4 or 5, maybe I could feel the difference pero not at the time of our test drive.

I would really agree na yung height talaga niya ang isa sa mga bentahe. 😄

I did also feel the lag when i tested the eco sport at moa last march... If you punch the throttle the eco does not leap to speed up but it just run steady and consistent... I was just hoping that the MT was better than the AT titanium that was for test drive... Eventhough it was not what i expected.. It still reserved one MT unit at MOA...

Well it was a long wait... But the wife had a change of heart so we ended up getting a 2014 Tucson instead.... Haaayyyy my heart still is with this little ecosport... But... I guess one of these days. I'll get one of this ecos... Just have to hear more feedbacks on the performance of this vehicle.. Its still very early to say that this little gem is perfect.. But so far its still +++ on the scoreboard

All the while, I thought nag-iingat lang sya mag drive to think that this will be out 10th brand new car if ever and she is a very good and fast lady driver, so far better than other male drivers I see on the road. Napansin ko din na mababa yung engine ng ecosport so mataas ng ng konti yung ground clearance kaso naiwan yung makina so malamang abutin din ng tubig baha.

The EcoSport can wade through 550mm of water, that's higher than most of the larger C-segment crossover SUVs.
It also has a 200mm ground clearance. Obviously that can't happen if you left the engne hanging low.
Vital electronics, including the horn are mounted high up in the engine bay.

The Alternator on modern Ford engines are also mounted high near the intake.

The engine looks low in the engine bay because like other crossover SUVS, the dimension of the EcoSport's body (from the floor to the roof) is greater than that of a car (you sit more upright in a crossover SUV). Proportionally, the hood and cowl (base of the windshield where the wipers are mounted) is also higher leaving extra space between the engine and the hood.
Obviosuly the dimensions of the 1.5 liter engine stays the same whether it's in a car or crossover SUV.

*Some vehicles have bulky plastic engine covers that give the illusion that the engine is bigger and taller than it really is.
The EcoSport has no plastic cover on the engine, a thing some petrol-heads prefer.

Why not lift the engine higher from the chassis rails/platform? It would raise the center of gravity. This would affect the driving dynamics/handling/safety of the vehicle.

    Other crosover SUV examples:
    Land-Rover Freelander

    Hyundai Tucson

    Toyota RAV4

Remove the plastic engine covers and those engines will look smaller and lower in the engine bay.

Na-test drive ko kanina yung nissan almera. Parang mas nagustuhan ko yong ride quality and speed.

Selling point talaga ng ecosport yung looks nya- inside and out. Pagiisipan ko ulit ito!
