Well some initial impressions. Its a gas glug glug glug guzzler hehe. But it more than makes up for it with all the power you need. The torque is there all the time even on 3rd gear (which it kinda defaults to at slow speeds) . If you want to launch it hard.... its best to go to sport mode and downshift to 1st gear.....but be ready to bang the upshift quickly as this thing pulls hard and fast. No time to check the speedometer or rpm at all. You press hard and it goes thru the tach bang bang.
I find it very civilized at slow speeds though and the The sight lines are very good , humps are no issue whatsoever and the transmission is smooth (except in manual mode where it could use a bit more responsiveness and upshift automatically at the red line). I have managed to do a few pulls in a straight line and yes, there is so much locomotive force especially in the higher rev range. I like that this v8 has a 7k red line. That really adds badassness for me hehe. Whatever my definition of 'fast' was before has been totally reset by this car. My previously adored (but sold) chipped and tuned subaru legacy turbo is just 'athletic' by this new standard. My current forester xt turbo is just 'spirited'. The jazz (which I love dearly) is just 'peppy'. That coyote v8 really raised the bar for me. And yes, I understand its all relative. But now I know why the sports car guys are addicted. Roller coaster kind of fun on command of your right foot is truly intoxicating.
The engine note is really sweet. Not loud but the v8 rumble is there. No crackles and pops like a high powered turbo 4 but menacing nonetheless. The gas needle ...... just try not to look at it cause it does move haha. Its playing tricks on my mind. I try to ignore it for the most fun.
Space in the back is strictly for kids and ingress and egress for the back seat passengers can be tiresome. Its a really a 2 person cruiser . Grabbing the seatbelt is also tough as the b-pillar is pushed way back.
Lots of display modes and adjustability for the smaller display in between the tech and speedometer but I haven't really fiddled around with it much. Can't really look at it anyway when you're controlling this beast.
The tires are 255 19 40 though I wish they were wider in the back to give an even more powerful stance. The ride isn't harsh or too stiff but you can tell that its meant for sporty driving and not comfort.
I wish it had ford touch sync 3 instead of the sync version it is using now. I've seen the demo on YouTube and its miles ahead of the current implementation. Having said that.....the fort touch system isn't all that bad. I pair my bluetooth phone and play spotify. Navigation isn't enabled here......sigh.
I think the next batches of mustangs will have sync 3 already as it was announced in the usa that anything built after May will have the new sync 3 system .
Hope I get my plates soon!!!!!!
