July 26th, 2013 07:00 PM #31it would be nice to see if consumer reports test drive of the ecoboost engine was incorrect. they said fuel consumption of ecoboost engine is almost the same as naturally aspirated.
parang may point kasi ung reasoning ng iba, 3 cylinder lang tapos 1.0L pa. so basically lagi lang gagana ung turbo which basically will burn more fuel to give you that needed power.
sa mga kukuha ng 1.0L, pashare na lang ng real world consumption nyo

Not really, not unless you always treat every traffic light like a drag race. In everyday city driving, you don't always make full use of the turbo.
Here's another way to look at it, your standard naturally aspirated 1.6 liter engine will always consume fuel like a 1.6 liter engine regardless of the driving conditions, even if you're just idling at a stop light.
The 1.0 EcoBoost (or any modern direct injection turbo engine in general) is like having multiple engines in one. Under hard acceleration when the turbo fully kicks in, you get the performance of larger 1.6 liter engine, but when cruising or idling it consumes fuel like a smaller engine.
The 1.0 EcoBoost also makes 170Nm of torque at a very diesel-like 1,400 - 4,500 rpm.
Besides the 1.0 EcoBoost engine has already been tested and proven in Europe and has the honors of winning the International Engine of the Year twice. Even Daimler (Mercedes) is interested with the Ford's 1.0 EcoBoost engine. Daimler and Ford share notes on each other's engines
PS: Consumer Reports is not really a reliable source, they leave out details that will either make a product look bad (if it's not their favorite brand) or good (if it's their favorite brand).
Initially, the 1.0 EcoBoost currently available in other markets only comes with a manual transmission, but a PowerShift transmissionfor the 1.0 EcoBoost is being developed and ASEAN/ Asia-Pacific will be one of the first markets to get it.

I posted a more detailed post some 10 hours ago, but it doesn't seem to be showing up here, so here's a shorter version of that post.
First, the turbocharger is not always in full boost.
With a naturally aspirated 1.6, it will always consume fuel like a 1.6 even if you are just idling, with the 1.0 EcoBoost, it's like having multiple engines in one, under hard acceleration when the turbo is in full use, its like a 1.6 engine, but when you are cruising or idling, it consumes fuel like a smaller displacement engine.
PS: The 1.0 EcoBoost also produces much more torque than the naturally aspirated 1.6, it produces 170 Nm * a very diesel engine-like 1,400 - 4,500 RPM.
It's also roughly some 30kg lighter than the old naturally aspirated 1.6.Last edited by AG4; July 28th, 2013 at 08:29 PM.

Initially it was manual only, but they are launching one with a PowerShift transmission.
Here's info from Australia, since they also source their Fiestas from Thailand (except for the ST)
The three-cylinder engine combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing to produce 92 kW of power and 170 Nm of peak torque, offering an advantage of 19Nm of torque over the previous generation 1.6-litre Duratec and diesel-like fuel economy of 4.9 l/100km and 113g/km CO2 when matched to the standard 5-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch transmission is optional. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will be available in new Fiesta from December 2013.
Of course in ASEAN, the PowerShift transmission will most likely be the only option for the 1.0 EcoBoost model since top of the line models here are rarely offered with a manual transmission.Last edited by AG4; August 15th, 2013 at 02:25 PM.

If they want customers to hop on... keep the turbo car manual... sell it stripped to get the price down to mid-range Fiesta prices.
Powershift plus turbo might mean maintenance issues and worries that will turn off buyers.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I think they took over Sept 2023... I remember their event presented the 296 GTB and the Purosangue...
