Mazda says no to a new pickup based SUV.
- Mazda turns down seven-seater Ford SUV twin |*CarAdviceA Mazda source at the 2012 Paris motor show revealed that the company turned down an offer from Ford to have a second twin based on the Ranger ‘T6’ platform that also sits beneath the BT-50.
“We looked at the global market and weren’t convinced there was a great demand for a seven-seater, ute-based SUV,” said the Mazda source.
“Mitsubishi has the Triton-based Challenger, but its sales figures aren’t the kind that would encourage us to offer such a vehicle.
The Proceed Marvie was also sold as the Ford Raider, this was the last pickup-based SUV for Mazda.
By the way, this concept isn't new since Ford and GM have also been doing pickup-based SUVs in the US for decades.
The outgoing Everest is based on the old Mazda-based Ranger, but was developed by Ford, I guess this explains why the outgoing Everest looks like an old Explorer when viewed from the side.
Like the New Ranger, the all-new Everest was developed fully by Ford.

wha't's interesting is the 5 cylinder turbo diesel rated at 197 hp and hoping its not only the australian model that gets it
hoping also for a 6 speeder transmissionwise
Ford Everest Concept Previews a New SUV for Australia (The Torque Report)
What 2.5L Diesel engine are they going to use? Especially that no 2.5L is offered with the Ranger. I still believe that's a typo and we're getting 2.2L and 3.2L.
Very nice. I wonder when they will launch this here.... Would be nice to trade in my carnival and get this.

I am so in love right now.hehe Whew! I love the look of the Ranger but I love the look of this Everest even more.
parang ang laki na ng all new everest..!baka halos maging kasing laki na sila ng new explorer kapag nagkataon.more space and room inside the second and third row seats.
The Next Everest will still be smaller than the Explorer, the Ranger it's based on is nearly half a foot narrower than the new Explorer.
The 3rd row space might be rommier than the current Everest, but it probably can't match the 3rd row space of the New unibody Explorer.
Tthe body on frame Everest appears to have a live axle rear suspension (it needs clearance for the differential to move up instead of being in a fixed position like the Explorer which has an idependent rear suspension), so the 3rd row seat or floor area might be positioned a bit higher (like most of the other pickup based SUVs).

The unibody Durango is low, long, more rounded, and more-car-like than the Everest (comparison photo on the previous page).
Just change the large wheels and some trim of the Everest Concept and you got the production next gen Everest.
That article is from January, it's probably outdated.
Spy photos of the next gen Everest mule have been spotted with camo covering the rear under portion to hide the suspension.
They'd probably do that only if they were hiding something new, my guess is those are coil springs hidden by the camo.
