They moved the A-pillar base back supposedly to give it a more premium look, something associated with RWD designs, same reason the new Mazda 3 has its A-pillar base moved back too. Doing something about the car's silhouette/proportions is better than putting tacky chrome trim.


I drive a Focus Mk2, and like the Focus Mk3 those A-pillars that go all the way forward does nothing for usable interior space. You just end up with a long deep dashboard.

They did do a modification to cheapen the Global C-car platform...
Ditch the independent control blade rear suspension and put a twist-beam rear suspension.
