matinong can opener

What's with can openers today(the ones with a knob), andaling masira i've already bought the more expensive ones like Swing Away, Sunnex, they don't last more than a few months. Usually yung gears ang nasisira, and the cutter just won't bite into cans any more.


Nasubukan ko na rin yung P38/P51 "military type" can opener; at first use, i already noticed some edges bending; i don't expect it last very long.

i don't ever remember having this problem in the past; minsan yung maramihang lutuan pa, we'd go through dozens of cans with no problems.

Can anyone recommend a good one? We're using an el cheapo can opener right now, 100+ pesos lang, It's doing a better job than the two i mentioned, but i don't think it will last long.

Yeah, I remember when I was growing up, we only had one can opener (the simple one with a butterfly type winder and a bottle cap opener). That can opener lasted until I graduated from college.
But now, as you said, even the expensive types don't last long. It's as if tumibay yung bakal ng mga delata. Or talagang masagwa na ang quality ng can opener.

Anyway, I've had best luck with a side-opening can opener. The current one I'm using is Chef's Choice.

Yunf can opener namin this past month lang 3 nasira. Nawala kasi ug can opener namin na matagal na.

dati kasi all metal, ngayon plastic yung pinaka-bearing nya kaya lumuluwag yung gear. wala ka na makikita na all metal unless you for the table top model, yung may clamp sa table tapos may crank sa taas. gusto ko na nga iuwi yung nasa galley nitong rig hehehe!

Yung can opener ko ngayon ilang taon na, okay pa din.

Yung design niya ay yung most common pero all metal siya. Ito dapat ang una mong hanapin. Pag may plastic part, dehado ka na.

Second kong sinigurado ay solid ang pagkakagawa at wala masyadong play sa rotating parts.

Then third, for its size, mejo mabigat sya. Yung weight yung proxy ko for metal strength. Not sure if it is accurate but looks like it worked.

Of course kahit na common design sya tapos ang liit tingnan, mejo mahal siya. Another sign na mejo may quality.

Lol tibay nito. Inuwi ng tatay ko galing saudi nung grade1 ako.37 nako gamit pa namin pag umuuwi ako probinsya. Tanda ko pa hirap ako gamitin noon kasi mabigat. Itataas mo kasi at ibabagsak para tamaan yung gilid ng can.

Parang mahirap linisin to sir...but i bet it's very popular with kids. So kung gusto niyong utuin, este, iencourage yung mga bata na tumulong.... ^_^

the ecko classic can openers of old, worked very well even after years of use..
the new ones of the same brand may look like the old one, but i believe the quality of the metal has changed..
the new ones don't work as smoothly as the old..

sa akin, walang matinong can opener na may de roskas.... sooner or later, masisira at masisira pa din yan.
for me, ang pinakamatino is yung manual..... punas at hasa lang ang katapat.

Surprised to see these thread. Matagal na ko kinukulit ng nanay ko to replace our can opener, which is relatively new.. Naiinis na yata siya na wala na kameng tumagal na can opener.. Pinaghahanap pa nga ako ng mga made in germany daw. Any recommendations?

and i thought na napakamalas ko sa can opener dahil walang tumatagal samantalang yung can opener ng ermats ko ilang dekada na ata. puro mahinang klase na pala nabibili ngayon.
