Ahh.. Chinatown. I really miss that place. When I was younger, I was there alone around twice or thrice a week for several years (I was still in high school then during the late 80's) doing errands. I remember the times when I would occasionally stop by the magazine stands and sneak a peek at Lao Fu Zi comics. :D And how about those side-street chess players who bets on passers-by to figure out how to arrive on a checkmate in 5 moves?
I got robbed once and almost mugged on another occasion. Regardless of it all, the place has a soft spot in my heart and this thread kinda made me want to walk down memory lane one of these days... and maybe grab some real Chinese grocery items while I'm at it.
The last time I was there was at least a decade ago and I wasn't even on Ongpin. I was looking for electronics stuff along Raon.
Sorry for the OT.

Ang Tunay Beef Centre has been closed for some time already and aren't Wai Ying and Ying Ying the same restaurant? Manosa opened Maki Centre close to the corner of Salazar and Benavidez. I think the original Tasty restaurant was the one on Masangkay street. I do find the Retiro and Ongpin branches more convenient though.
Masuki was originally Ma Kong, the first restaurant of the Ma family on Benavidez street. Ma Mon Luk is a different restaurant but offered a very similar product. Local Chinese legend has it that the guy who owned both gave Ma Kong to the original wife and Ma Mon Luk to the mistress. They have branches now at MOA and Megamall.
