ang advice sa amin is to stay inside our homes because we're 40 miles inland and are not in a low-lying (i.e. floodable) area.
yung mga may bahay sa coast ay naka-evacuate na. another thing is all houses bult after Andrew (mine is two years old) is built to specs that will (theoretically) withstand these winds.
we have the option to go to a shelter but all my neighbors and i are going to stick it out. i hope it's the right decision.
the wind has already picked up and at this point i'm not going to risk the roads and highways.
update: the hurricane is continuing to slow down and get wider. the hurricane is now 250 miles wide, and traveling at 9 mph.
while this gives us some more time to prepare (hurricane-force winds are now expected by saturday early morning), it's actually bad because if it's slow-moving it will stay over us for longer.
the highways heading north and away from south florida are completely jammed and gridlocked. i hope these folks aren't still on the road when we get hit.
namimili` ba 'tong mga bagyo?? sabi pag nasa equatorial belt daw ang mga lugar very prone to typhoons..
kasi, these normally happen either sa southeast asia or dyan sa carribean islands blowing on a westerly and northernly directions..hagip pinas, japan. china and on the other side 'yang puerto rico, bahamas, punta na florida and tapering off on eastern coastal states up to new jersey..
from where i am now (coastal central western africa) equator belt din at maulan talaga from may to nov. but the winds are just blowing the normal, breezy way..
makasagot nito si mr punongbayan..retired na 'ata..?!
Hurricane Frances pummeled the Bahamas late Friday with heavy rains and winds of 105 mph as it wobbled toward Florida, where it is expected to make landfall Saturday afternoon. The storm was downgraded late Friday to a Category 2 storm, with winds less than 110 mph. But forecasters warned that Frances is a "strong Category 2 hurricane" that could still cause massive damage across Florida.
update - power is still on, so i'm still posting on tsikot! :D
winds are up to 50-60 mph outside now, i think the tree in my front yard is causing the banging i'm hearing from my front shutters on the 2nd floor. supposedly they will be reaching 80 mph as the 'second band' of the hurricane hits us. the hurricane is about 100 miles offshore right now.
the danger right now is that instead of 150 mph winds hitting us for a few hours, we'll most likely have 80-100 mph winds hitting for most of the day.
i hope everything holds up and the damage will not be too extensive when it's all over
EDIT: i just lost a tree - a 28-footer just broke off at the base and went crashing into our neighbor's side wall. luckily no one was hurt or nothing damaged besides a rain gutter on the roof :whoa:
