I don't know if this counts. But, I've driven all the way from Fallon, NV to pick up my wife at San Francisco International. It's 6 hours at high speed each way and much longer if I get stuck at rush hour traffic along I-80 near Sacramento.

Why? Because she demanded I pick her up at San Francisco instead of her catching a 45-minute flight to Reno where it's 1 hr for me each way from Fallon.

    What I'll do for love.

Add: I didn't really care about gas, food, wear and tear on the car, hours of waiting. All I cared about was getting some. That alone was incentive enough.

Yahoo Maps showed it only 4:49 hours. Yeah right. Traffic, checkpoints, and speed traps make it closer to 6 hours each way.

    304 miles/490 km each way.

Before my wife and I got married I use to fly to Manila from San Francisco(12 hours). Once I got there she would drive from her home in Sucat to the condo I stayed in Greenhills or from her work in Makati to Greenhills. My nephew told me that my wife must have really loved me to make that drive everyday when she was my girlfriend. I told him my flights weren't a cake walk either going 12 hours each way and my wife finally realized it the first time she took the flight coming to San Francisco.

Hehe, much respect Jun. That's a drive I wouldn't have wanted to do alone.

I once drove from Las Vegas to LA because my then gf wanted to shop in Melrose. I made her drive part of the way back tho hehe.

I'm sooo glad I'm married to a simple woman with simple tastes...just like me!

Originally, it was simple economics. It's 2 tanks of gas vs $150-$200 for a domestic flight from SFO to RNO. Back then, unleaded was $1.60/gal in NV and a little more in CA. It's obviously cheaper to drive.

Besides, my uncle started the whole thing by driving my aunt to SFO. It then became standard procedure for anyone going to or coming back from the Philippines.

It's not really that bad. I've driven several times from Fallon to Oklahoma City, 19 hours straight just stopping for gas and taking a wheez. I also drove from Fallon to Miami to catch the 1994 Futbol World Cup and then drove back. Then, there's that trip from Bangor Maine to Reno on a rental. All of them I drove while alone. 6 hours isn't much. I just whine a lot.

Next year, I'll fly home to fetch my wife so we can now be together in the US. She needs the extra baggage kasi marami bibitbitin hehe. And yes, we're currently living apart today, but not for long...

Every Monday nung nasa college pa kami, I would pick her up from their place (kasama sister niya, parehong UST) and head to school. Yung sasakyan ko isn't the most reliable hehe pero I still do it just because I don't want her to commute or wait til 7pm kapag coding siya. Ako kasi we have an apartment close to UST and I go home during the weekends to replenish my supplies (have clothes laundered, get more food, etc) and return on Monday nights after school (or mornings if we get lucky and early enough).

My house to theirs is 19.6KM each way, imagine beating the early morning rush and waking up at 5am every Monday with all my stuff ready in the car not knowing if it was going to break down or not!

When I was still a student in Mapua, I remember commuting from Pamplona, Las Pinas to Bulacan (and back) just to visit a female acquaintance who was studying in Lyceum. Of course, nothing ever came out of that. But, I had a good meal at her home.

Bulacan became a pretty familiar destination because 1 guy and 2 gals from my "barkada" lived there. We took turns having lunch or dinner at each other's homes.

when my wife and i were still dating, i drive 2-3 times a week to pampanga just to see her. gas was cheap back then but the wear and tear on the car was no joke (remember the old nlex? cheap toll but the road used to be very bad). now, once in 2 mos na lang since i work the whole week.

Nope. Aside that it is totally irrationale and illogical it doesnt suit my personality to take high risks. Though I know a handful of people who does this and most of them ended up in regrets except one who is happily married now and both of them are situated in abroad.
