Except for the speed, number of passengers, driving style, tire pressure and mods, what are the parts of the vehicle that would contribute to its fuel economy? Kindly also specify what could cause a particular part to worsen fuel economy and how to remedy it. Thanks

July 18th, 2005 03:39 PM #21. Engine State of Tune.
a. Spark Timing. Advance it too much and the piston will be fighting its way to the top. Retard it too much and the burning fuel won't be pushing down on the piston but will be burning its way past the exhaust valve/s.
b. Air filter. If it's dirty it will restrict the air, causing the engine to draw fuel instead, resulting in a rich mixture.
c. Slipping Clutch. Some of the engine's power doesn't get past the flywheel.
d. Spark plugs. Dirty or wrongly gapped, the mixture will not combust completely or may not even ignite at all.
e. Ignition system defect. Distributor, rotor, high tension leads, points (if equipped), can all contribute to a weak spark, ultimately causing poor combustion and fuel economy.
2. Vehicular Aerodynamics. Shape of vehicle. Size of "frontal area". Cargo sticking out of body or on the roof creating increased wind drag.

Engine Accessories. Check your belts and pulleys. Worn bearings in the pulleys and tight belts will drag on the engine, causing loss of power and hence higher fuel consumption... If you're the modifying type, lightening the pulleys (via machine shop, but risky!) or replacing them with lighter aluminum pieces will help.

how about the contact point? does it also contibute? yung dirty fuel filter? or fuel tank? could cleaning the fuel tank improve the fuel economy?

don't use AC that much.. kasi malakas makaubos ng gas yun tapos yung mga filters mo kelangan malinis and fuel lines also.. may nabibiling additive na nilalagay sa fuel tank para malinis nya yung mga injectors ng car mo

open windows too. i think jeremy clarkson of top gear said about 40% increased consumption if you drive with all the windows down. and almost 200% if you have a bike ontop of the car.
Thank you!
