September 25th, 2013 02:13 AM #2the engine thermostat keeps coolant flowing in the engine at a minimum, until the engine reaches optimum working temperature.
that way, the engine reaches optimum temp faster.
an engine running at less than optimum temp, consumes more gas, generates more pollutant.
removing the thermostat, will increase pollution and fuel consumption.
the thermostat's effect is more palpable in colder countries.

IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
