synthetic or ordinary engine oil???

Just had my 1,000km PMS, I used synthetic oil since this was what the guy there suggested......

I have some questions though....

Which is better, synthetic or ordinary?
Can this affect fuel efficiency?
Can this give better performance?
Since synthetic oils are way more expensive, is it worth it?
