do you switch your engine right away, or wait for a few second to a minute for the oil to settle down?

I wait for the turbo to cool down.

I just switch off the engine right after parking, usually I turn off the aircon, headlights, radio then engine.
I let the engine idle for a couple of minutes kahit wala akong turbo.
really? so its really recommended to idle for a couple of minutes on a diesel ride such as the D4D turbo?

sorry zero talaga sa turbo![]()
For vehicles with turbo, it is mandatory to allow the engine to idle for a minute or two before shutting it off. This allows the turbo to cool down properly.
For non-turbo vehicles, is there any advantage to letting the engine run for a while before turning it off?
even if the engine rarely reaches 2.5k rpm? delicate pala turbo diesel engines
same question here... for non-turbo vehicles, is there a proper way of switching the engine off?
ako kasi, i rev the engine muna before turning it off eh... :D
Yes, because the turbo is spinning far more faster than 2,500rpm. Same applies to turbocharged gasoline engines.Originally Posted by BlueBimmer

thats a no-no.besides wasting gas, i read that it has detrimental effects connected with sludge...or something to that effect.Originally Posted by izzy

That practice harks back to the day of old-school carb engines. Though I don't really get the point of doing it nowadays. Even newer carb engines can get by without it.

sabi pa nila noon araw..
since nag rev ka nag charge ang ang battery mo
comes from alternator sabay click off ng ignition switch
mura pa kasi gas noon araw
IMO, pag may turbo, idle for at least 1 to 2 minutes, for long drives, at least 3 to 5 minutes. Pag walang turbo, turn off the engine right away, don't rev, sayang lang gas or diesel.
dont rev ... sabi nga sa previous posts, sayang lang gasolina.
after parking, i do the following: check handbreak (nakalimutan ko dati and when i came back sa car ko it apparently rolled slowly onto a van .. ouch!), turn off radio, turn off lights then turn off the engine. i usually turn off the a/c more than 3 blocks away from the house.
yup.. ok lang to turn the engine right away. pero madalas parang automatic na yung paa ko to rev before turning off the engine.
For non turbo engines, you can turn it off right after shutting off the a/c, radio, etc... No cool down needed here. Idling and revving will just waste gas usually.
