October 2nd, 2009 12:36 PM #1Sportage 98: Overheat Vs Timing ng Barbula(Top Overhaul)
Hey Guys!!
Im Having an issue with my newly purchased 2nd hand Kia Sportage 98 Automatic Transmission na Gas 2.0 DOHC engine. It Runs smoothly pag walang traffic, yung tipong cruising lang ok talaga.
Pagka stop mo and park okay nanaman siya pagkatapos
Repair History:
When i purchased it i immediately had the spark plugs replaced with new ones, parang almost top overhaul na pinagawa ko. Palit din akong oil and air filter. Tapos
Oil Change, Gear Oil Change and ATF change.
Tumakbo siya ng maayos mga 2 weeks.
When i made a trip to Divisoria doon nag pakita problema, inconsistent performance ever since na.
Help!!
Parang akong Albularyong nag theorize kung anong sakit nitong sasakyan. Minsan ayos na ayos minsan hindi...
Thanks sa mga sasagot!!!

tatzkiboy,
define pina sikipan parts din ang taas? bergin ulit? maybe you are talking about valve clearance. if your valve clearance or lash adjustment is too tight, the valves will not close properly when the valve stem expands from the heat of combustion. or maybe you are using wrong plug type or heat range. publish all the things done to your engine. or we will result in a lot of maybes and guessing

October 2nd, 2009 02:53 PM #4balbula not barbula as in valve. sinikipan so valve clearance are not set to standard. its auto lush adjustment, that is probobly thte cause. removing the thermostant will only lead to slow warm up not overheating.

October 4th, 2009 07:37 PM #5pa diagnose mo nalang sa casa it will save you time and a lot of money...
i would suggest for you to check the following:
Maf/tps sensor check using a ohmmeter if they are within specs
Fuel pump / filter
spark plug cables

1. Cylinder head removal for top overhaul.
2. Throttle body clean-up.
3. Intake manifold clean-up.
Maraming errors ang pwedeng mangyari during disassembly/assembly, at tune-up work.
Wala ba talagang problem sa first two weeks after the repair, have you driven a kia Sportage of same model before for comparison. Di ba sya mausok.

October 6th, 2009 02:01 PM #8Thanks sa mga info guys!!
Talked to my mechanic and sabi niya na baka mga senor na dahil kung halos top overhaul na ginawa baka sensors and computers na niya may tama....
Problem is wala siyang gamit for looking into it
Do you guys know of any shop (maliban sa Kia) that you can recommend na kayang tumingin at umayos ng sensor?
Please!!
Hehehe
Thanks!!

tatzkiboy,
have the valve clearance checked again, if it was not overheating before the unsucccessful operation, then the valve adjustments were screwed up. also, check the engine vacuum at the manifold at idle speed the vacuum should be between 17-21 inHg(inches of mercury). if the valve timing were off, it will show on the vacuum gauge. if the intake manifold had a leak, it will also show. if the check engine light is illuminated, the powertrain control module has detected a hard code malfunction and should be read, interpreted and repaired.

It is not like those with OHV (overhead valves) and pushrods na may screw/nut for valve clearance andjustment. When they say lash adjustment ano kaya yung ginawa nila.
