as a diagnostician, technician and estimator, i always give a low and high estimate and get a go ahead or go signal from the owner who pays for the repairs. also, i advise if the repair is worth the value of the car. it is in the best interest of the customer if he is willing to pay for the price of putting his car on the road or to lay it to rest. some customers give me their blessing to resurrect the car with a given acceptable cost. some only want the car back on the road for sentimental value, not on blue book or street value of the car. unfortunately, not all people have the play money to do so. so, weigh the pros and cons. weigh the customer's willingness and capacity to pay. advise the customer and give him the options given the cost versus disposing of the car. speaking of different countries outside of the philippines id est. but in our country, that poor "mechanic" who will promise just to put food on his family table will try to bring false hopes. it is the customer's prerogative. he pays for the bill

charge to experience na lang bro, sure naman na casa quality din yung work nila kaya usual lang yung price nila (labor + parts)
next time canvass ka na lang muna dami naman auto shops eh, select ka na lang din kung sino mas pinaka quality

I got an old sentra from an online selling site. then dinala ko sa speedyfix. they changed belts CV and stuffs. charged me around 15k.
I have a few budget and I really trusted them so much, na iniwan ko nalang yung car then paid the receipt no questions asked.

To my surprise i found out that not only the parts are way overpriced labor also is too expensive.

here are some.

clutch cable 800 and labor 600. real price from auto supply is only 450 and labor is just easy most shops would charge 100 to 150 pesos.
clean TB 1500.. nothing happens, idle is still sky high.
CV joint 2500 and labor 1500, price from auto supply is 850 to 1200. most shop would charge at most 500 pesos.
change oil mineral 2500 pesos while you can have same service for 1,300.

Kala ko ba reasonable price? ano reasonable doon? They just charged me double even triple on parts.

dapat bago pagawa pa estimate mo muna kunin mo ang parts list na kailangan palitan para mag canvass ka muna kung saan ka makakakuha ng masmababang presyo.

Always ask first sir. Plus try to see how they do it for the first time para you can gauge if kaya mo na i-DIY. Yung addt'l cost sa parts normal yan kapag sila pa pinabili mo sa shop. Siyempre gagastos ng pamasahe, fuel eh. Again asking would have save you half the cost you just spent.

Search ka din muna sa net next time, information is very very valuable.

Grabe naman yun 100 pesos labor....mas mahal pa yung pa carwash samin...

Actually pag ka sobra naman mura ayaw ko pahawak mga sasakyan ko...tama na yung mas mababa kesa sa casa pero may puwesto at equipment, wag naman parang yung boy boy lang gagawa dahil mura sobra tapos may paskil lang sa gilid ng kalye. Yam yung mga tig 100-150 pesos na mekaniko......eeooowww!

+1 for Speedyfix. Had my RAV services there for 5 years. Never changed or fixed anything without calling me first and giving me a quote. As for labor, cheaper than Toyota's casas.

In general, bibihira yung magaling na sobrang mura ng singil. And kay speedyfix kasi, malinis yung shop, you get aircon with wifi lounge.

Just like Joseph atutubo, the pajero guru. You can not compare his rates with backyard mechanic. He's very good with what he does. Alam niya ginagawa niya. And Madali siya kausap. Of course may magaling din na backyard mechanic. Sure, I visit my suking backyard mechanic once in a while, pero for basic pms lang. Pag major mechanical na gagawin, no question sa mas magaling ko na dadalhin.

TS, may shops na kada baklas and charge sa labor. For example, if they remove the air filter housing to access the engine bay, may charge yun. A simple replacement of air filter, may charge din hehe
