i feel that the first 1000 km is the time when the engine sheds off the relatively biggest amount of metal, as the various components seat in.
so yes, i believe in first 1K oil change.

do i have literature supporting my belief?
    nope.

but if you mean, will the engine disintegrate a month after, if you fail to do so, probably not.

What is your car? Honda explicitly (in red ink and all caps big font) states in their manual that 1,000 kms oil change is not necessary.

oh, it will remove some, and let pass some. depends on the particle size and the filter's capability.
    everybody knows that.

i'm neither australian nor thai. you'll have to ask them that question.
i do my driving in the philippines.
and it doesn't cost me an arm nor a leg to do 1K oil change, either.

kayo, sir. what are your thoughts on this 1K oil change?

Im planning to get ciaz but the nearest dealer is 500+ kms away from us. Im thinking of skipping the first 1,000 kms change oil. So Im just asking if that first 1k kms change oil is really necessary.

some new purchases have this free 1000km oil change where they only inspect and not change oil. hope you got that freebie.

if not, still do it for warranty purposes. and try to find a casa/dealer where you see the mechanic change the oil...

If it's stated in the manual, then yes. But you can have it changed near your place if the dealer is that far away, just use engine oil with the recommended certification.

    I agree with you.

    Especially for newly overhauled engines...

It's in the manual, depends on the manufacturer.
But I'm stuck in my ways, I just go have it changed.

A lot of vehicles don't require first 1000 kms change oil anymore ... manufacturing technology has improved over the years ...

I think it's the distance from his place to the dealer's that's got him thinking about skipping the pms.

i have misgivings about buying a brand new car, where the authorized dealer/service center is so far away.
i'll probably buy the one whose service center is much nearer.

    i can't imagine.
i live in manila, and my dealer is in ilocos.
