I agree, medyo overrated yung 145 HP... probably as a marketing gimmick than anything else. Just like the TOM's Turbo Corolla, they first claimed it to be 200HP and later changed it to about 150HP.
yung nasa MR2 spyder rated at 138hp yata. Kahit sa Celica GT ganun din. yung isnag engine nga Celica na 1.8 yun yung 180 Hp.
OT:
other car manufacturers are guilty of this. ;)
The 124Hp Lancer, 130Hp ES Civic. Kahit yung local SiR di daw talaga 160Hp because of the different ECU installed. pag nilagyan ng JDM ECU yung SiR saka lang mamaximize yung 160Hp
the celica gt-s is which also using this engine is rated at 180hp.
the lotus elise is also using this engine. although they used their own engine management software and upped it to 190hp. although the downside to this is the high engine temperature and neccesitated the use of an oil cooler for the elise.
i guess the other countries have catalytic converters installed. Plus, iba siguro settings ng computer box nila to compensate for the prescence of the cat.

you dont need to borrow someone else's car to test drive a corolla altis... Just wait when Toyota does a test drive weekend, usually at the FORT. All you need is a driver's license.
Originally posted by mbt and in the US, the same engine is rated at 130 hp, 125 lb-ft (although it may be because of US emissions controls)
i drive a 95 corolla CE with a 4A-FE, and when i drove a 2000 Corolla (1ZZ-FE engine debut in the 2000 model with 125hp) i felt a big difference in power! The 1ZZ-FE is way smoother than my 4A-FE. I Felt the 4A-FE just aged.
Toyota just recently realeased a new corolla XRS, i can't believe they put the 2ZZ-FE GT-S engine on it with 10hp less compare to the celica's 180hp. I'm thinking of getting it next year after i get my tax return
