Hi. Im confused about the formulation differences between shell vpower diesel and the fuelsave diesel. Is it really a more refined diesel or just the same but with additives? And what kind of additives? Will it be beneficial to old diesel engines just like my nissan pickup's bd25 or are they just for commonrail diesels?

Thank you! Have a great weekend.

It's exactly the same base diesel but with better additives. The additives of VPD have higher detergent qualities to help prevent deposits.

Also... VPower diesel has a higher cetane rating of 54 vs Fuel Save Diesel at 50... Higher cetane means less delay in combustion... In general of course higher number is better...

Kinda like the RON in gasoline fuel...

No it doesn't. Same cetane rating for both.

Whether VPD or FSD, it's stored in the exact same tank in the depot. The additives are only added later on when the fuel is loaded in the lorry.

But then its from the UK but I am assuming Shell worldwide has same standards given such a global company would impose some common standards. But then if you are from Pilipinas Shell and if you say so then I concede...

V-Power Nitro + Diesel has special detergents inside that break up deposits, allowing the engine's injectors to spray freely (like a fresh new watering can). As the fuel travels through the injectors, it picks up the deposits and cleans them out, restoring the injectors, giving you an optimised fuel spray pattern and thus better combustion.

V Power Nitro+ Diesel also has a higher cetane rating (or combustion speed) than some ordinary diesel. This higher rating (an inverse of the octane number in petrol) means it tends to produce less soot during combustion, minimising the likelihood of your injectors being blocked again once cleaned. Any newly-removed soot is burnt as part of the combustion process and ejected via the exhausts.
What is Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel and is it worth it?

a bunch of guys have compared the two diesels from shell... they say that they don't feel any difference. This verifies what kuya Jut is saying.

It is possible that the higher tier fuel have cetane enhancers while the lower tier does not.

Shell fuel save in my opinion is 100% diesel fuel

Shell Vpower probably is 97-99% diesel fuel with 1-3% additive. The negligible additive amount makes it more expensive lol.

"Straight" Diesel doesn't exist at the retail pump because it's bad.

Simply put, pure Diesel will lack the necessary lubricity (used to be sulfur's job), biocides (bacterial growth will clog your fuel filter in a matter of months), and stabilizers (keeps the fuel potent for a significantly longer time in storage).

There are other additives that may or may not make it to our local Diesels. Here's a good read: Diesel Fuel Additives

I checked several datasheets and all of them show 99-100% diesel, very little additives.. close to 1% is well negligible

The DieselNet article describes additives to be under 1% by volume. "Because of this low treat rate of additives the physical properties of the fuel, such as density, viscosity, and volatility are not changed significantly."

It would probably sound less enticing if it was sold as 99.x% Diesel... and then having to explain that the remaining 0.x% are additives.

Thats why I still think the fuel save has little to no additives ..making it pesoses cheaper than its premium diesel fuel brother.

They are both the same fuel from the same refineries the only difference is that the V-Power has more additives in it that's all.
If your driving a modern vehicle then use V-Power it will help your fuel injectors but only in the long run.
And buy fuel from a clean place especially were they sell alot allot of fuel that way you won't be buying old fuel that's been in the ranks too long.

There is one on youtube, the only review I trust, from Jayson of Engineering Explained. Shell Fuels are indeed brilliant.

I once attended a Shell Eco-marathon event at Luneta, they did a live comparison, from then on I switched to Shell Fuels.

Imagine all the people living life in peace.
