Easy on the hasty generalizations. Not all Honda B-series engines are "overrated." The B20B lumps from the first CR-Vs (1996-98) actually drew a lot of complaints for being sorely underpowered, given the 2.0L displacement. That led to Honda quietly replacing it with the mildly revised B20Z two years later.
Nowadays in tuning circles, you usually see B20 engine blocks being bolted on with the aggressive B16A/B heads you anti-Honda fanbois seem to hate so much...this is the so-called "Frankenstein" or B20VTEC setup.
SR20DETs are also up there with the 4A-G lineage, they're relatively quite old (first ones came out 1988 if memory serves) yet pretty reliable and very tunable. Shorn of their turbos, the SR20DEs still power some Nissans such as the Serena MPVs.

so what did Eric Hsu said?? is he talkin smack about the 2JZ?? or is he praising it?? coz the last time I knew he is working on a IS300 w/ a fully built 2JZGTE at XS Engineering.
anywayz, about the 2JZGTE. it might be the most "over-rated" or "hyped-up" engine in its class (6cyl 3.0L class) but then again, it performed and backed up those statement.
here in the US, almost all of the leading Tuning shops / companies out here lean towards the 2JZ powerplant to be successful in Drag Racing. the 2JZ engine is capable of handling 800-1000 whp (wheel horsepower) on stock internals, and capable of handling waaayy over 1,200 to 1,500 whp on a fully built long block. and still be reliable. (note that theres a lot of 1000 RWHP Supra's out here in the US. and most of them are fully tuned Street Cars)
also, nowadays, the 2JZGTE engine is can be seen on a whole bunch of modified RWD cars. from Nissan 240SX's, Honda S2000's, Nissan 240Z's, Nissan 350Z's, AE86 Corolla's, FD3S RX7's, and even on old school Chevy Nova's.
so its clear that the 2JZGTE is undeniably the KING or what we can say the "Japanese Muscle Car Engine" of all time.

February 1st, 2008 04:19 AM #43grabe, humahaba na thread na to a. i've enjoyed reading each and everyone's input. lagi ko binabasa what you guys have to say kse i don't have any formal training. mostly backyard engineering ska trial and error lng kmi ng tropa
overrated engine? the 13b and other mazda rotary engines cguro. they were hyped up to be very powerful 1.3 engines with very good fuel economy as well. very good concept pro hind ngmaterialize. rotary engines are notorious for being unreliable and gas guzzlers. and unless they have turbo's, they also barely make any "real" power at all

me want to bolt-in a sr20vet on my 89 maxima, pero mahal gas!at baka di kayanin ng chassis yun power
