    Any comments.

sir,i too have a mits diesel van...pcalibrate ko nung nakita itong symptoms na to:

    1. too much black smoke/soot on the tailpipe..
    2.magaspang/mahina na ang hatak...and
    3.makonsumo..

pag nagpacalibrate ka for the diesel engine, katumbas yan ng pa-tune-up naman for gasoline engines..

most likely, fail ka sa emission test and be a good contributor to global warming..

Nozzle tips aren't calibrated, but injection pumps do need them on maintenance. Pwedeng maginagy kung barado ang nozzle tips meaning the fuel sprayed might not be enough to cause the noisy engine knocking sound.

Some may need cleaning while others like mine were required to be replaced, which I did just a few days ago.

korek si ungas, nozzle tips are replaced. kahit kaunti bara, palitan mo na para isang tanggalan na. injection pump are calibrated para di mausok ang makina mo.

Same as with alwayz_yummy's post, baaaaad fuel economy & too much unburnt fuel on tail pipe which results into black smoke are some points.

    Edit:
Sorry, mali ng explanation. Clogged nozzles pala tinatanong.

ahh.. thanks... so definitely less power na rin...

teka does this affect also the vibration of the engine?.. yung lumalakas yung alog?... tama ba....

nozzle tips do need calibration, new or old.

calibration = the act of checking or adjusting (by comparison with a standard) the accuracy of a measuring instrument; "the thermometer needed calibration"

we calibrate the nozzle tips to see if the spray pattern, pressure and atomization are all correct. we don't just install nozzle tips into injectors without "calibration".

and yes, it can contribute to engine vibration and noise which may sound like a metal tapping.

Ok na ang Tunog ng VAN Ko! Na Trouble shoot yung mekaniko ko.
NAG-ADVANCE PALA YUNG TIMING NG INJECTION PUMP (TUMALON) KAYA IBA ANG TUNOG. akala niya noon Nozzle Tip/Injection Calibration.

Because the metering method used in C/R diesels is in the injection duration, similar to the gasoline EFI system, C/R injectors do not need calibration like the pressure-controlled fuel injection systems of old.

Injector calibration is done by replacing the nozzle springs and adjusting pintle spring tension. As the injector nozzle ages, the spring tension diminishes and injection timing is advanced causing loss of power and noisier operation. Dirt can also get past old fuel filters, gradually accumulating in the pump and in the injectors themselves, causing bad spray patterns. This will in turn cause 'bad burn' resulting in even less power and black exhaust smoke.

All in all, the engine will feel weak, idle more roughly, and will make more combustion noise than usual.

A quick fix for the rough idling is to retard the fuel injection timing, but this will also worsen the fuel economy without eliminating the black smoke.
