Check all the following:
-Ignition timing
-compression test the cylinders (potential back job if it fails this)
-Spark plug
-Spark plug wires
-throttle body cleaning
-air filter
-fuel filter

By the way, how long was your car in the shop when you had the engine overhauled? Does the gasoline smell bad (stale fuel).
