May 9th, 2009 01:58 AM #1Hello Guys....I own a toyota corolla xl big body with a 2E engine. The last time I used the car eh nagoverheat sya. Tumirik kami sa service road ng C5 going to Villamor. Ayaw nya umandar then I checked the oil in the dip stick eh halos wala na. So I bought an engine oil para madagdagan yung langis na nawala. then tried many times to restart the engine. Nauubos din yung tubig sa may radiator so lagay ako ng lagay.
Finally umandar din and brought the car back home. Siguro mga 2 weeks hindi ko rin nagamit kase may work ako. Nung pinaandar ko hindi rin umandar makina. Nawawala din yung tubig sa radiator. Nung mapagana ko sya after several tries eh naglalabas naman ng tubig sa may tambutso. Tumatalsik yung water sa may radiator kapag nakabukas yung cap nya. I checked the sparkplugs... nangingitim na sya or sunog yung dulo. Meron din traces ng tubig and oil. Pati sa engine compartment nagkukulay light brown yung oil.
Meron ako friend na mekaniko...he told me to do a top overhaul. Pwede daw sya mag-ayos. But I want also to learn how to repair my own car. May mga wrenches and tools naman ako but wala ako nung mga gamit pangcompression test. Palagay nyo... ano papalitan ko sa engine ko... yung cylinder head gasket ba? Sama ba mga piston ring? How much kaya magagastos ko? I got a repair manual of the engine at nadon lahat instruction kung saan ko una babaklasin till I get to the cylinder head. Need some advice if I had to do it on my own or let my makaniko friend fix the job? Ano rin ba madalas sira kapag ganon ang case...may lumalabas na tubig sa exhaust and humahalo ata water sa engine oil. Need some know how and advises...Thanks in advance mga tsikoteers!

May 9th, 2009 03:01 PM #3sana nga cylinder head gasket lang yan, but as you mentioned you ran out of engine oil. chances are you also have to replace the piston rings w/c is already a major overhaul. sana walang tama yung crankshft mo.....kung meron mas ok siguro if you opt for an engine change. good luck

na-figure out mo na ba kung saan ka nagkaroon ng oil leak?
kung ang engine oil mo ay nagkukulay light brown, top overhaul na ang kelangan. magpapalit ka lang ng cylinder head gasket. but of course, tingnan mo rin kung di na-bingkong ang cylinder head mo.
medyo matrabaho din ang gawaing yan, lalo na sa walang background sa automotive repairs. ingat lang sa pag-baklas ng mga parts at sa pagkabit ulit. di pwedeng magkapalit-palit. ingat din sa pag-timing. good luck.

pagawa mo nlang sa mechaniko yan. Lack of oil and absence of water is a sign of an ill-maintain car. even with the right tools if di ka mechanically inclined you might end up messing the engine.

May 12th, 2009 09:37 AM #6doing a top overhaul is not the first step in learning how to fix a car. but you can always watch your mechanic and ask some polite questions about the parts.

May 12th, 2009 11:43 PM #7Thanks guys for the comments... I decided to have it checked by my friend mechanic. Kinakabahan nga ako when he pulled out the cylinder head. Kase habang papunta ako sa kanila eh ilang beses ako tumirik, naglalabas ng tubig yung exhaust, tumatagas langis and pigil ang takbo! Napakaswerte ko raw kase hindi pumutok yung cylinder head. Talagang sirang sira yung cylinder head gasket and puro carbon yung dulo ng mga barbula. Kaya yon bili agad ako ng mga parts... cylinder head gasket, intake and exhaust manifold gasket, valve cover gasket, distributor gasket, oil filter and mumurahing engine oil.
He checked the piston rings ok pa naman... so pinalitan nya lahat ng dapat palitan. He brushed and polished yung ilalim ng cylinder head para matangal yung carbon deposits including the spark plugs. Then sinukat lahat ng valve clearances using a pillar gauge. Hindi na kami nagpahydro-test at compression test na actually kailangan pa... pero based on his observations, tiningnan nya talaga maigi kung may signs ng cracks at it looks na ok naman. Nakatulong daw yung ginawa ko na hindi pinilit yung makina na umandar at pinalamig muna nung magoverheat ang auto ko. Ok pa rin naman daw radiator. Kaya mura na langis pinabili sa akin is to use it muna for the mean time kase talagang lahat ng binuksan namin ay puro may tubig... yung ibabaw ng piston hanggang exhaust, buong oil pan at block, yung head cylinder... lahat may tubig!
Kumpleto naman sya sa gamit and halos 2/3 lang ng araw na top overhaul na nya yung engine. tapos iniwan ko na lang sa kanya yung auto ko na bukas yung valve cover and yung tagasan ng langis sa ilalim para madrain yung naghalo na tubig at oil. Bumalik na ko kinabukasan. Ngayon maganda na tumakbo. Naminimize na rin yung takatak sound ng mga barbula kase wala na yung singaw. Kung makikita nyo lang yung itsura ng cylinder head gasket eh talagang sira at puro biyak. ginastos ko lang sa mga piyesa eh 1,300 pesos and binigyan ko nalang sya ng 3k kase barkada ko naman yon!
Magaling yung friend ko na yon kase nagwork sya sa honda... Kaso nagfreelance nalang sya kase mas gusto nya nakagawa ng iba pa na auto. Nagaayos din ng mga truck ng eastern yon. Malapit lang kase sa kanila planta ng eastern dito sa Pasig. Bilib talaga ako and natuto ako sa pagbabaklas namin nung engine kase tanong ako ng tanong. HeHeHe! Pati ako tumulong na rin magtanggal ng ibang piyesa...Thanks God OK na auto ko! Kala ko major overhaul na!
Varta used as replacement battery in German cars ... but they cost double that of Motolite ... not...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
