I have a 02-316i BMW and a friend suggested for me to put SIMOTA air intake filters (with cone filter, the carbon fiber heat shield, mounts). What will this do to the car performance? -- Another friend suggested otherwise saying since the filter is made of 'paper', after a year it will wear out and if might couse foreign objects from the filter to go inside the engine and create all sorts of problems. -- Need advice please tx

Yup. Have had both, and it's a big difference. Simota filters are a lot more restrictive than K&N, and sometimes it feels like there's absolutely no difference at all between Simota and stock. It's worth the extra two or three thousand bucks to get a good filter element. Keep the Simota heat shield, though. It helps.
