September 10th, 2005 12:26 AM #1Guys,
What do you think is the most powerful diesel engine for SUV and pickup in terms of torque?
The current record holder as of 2005 is the 6.6li Duramax Turbo Charge Diesel engine. It has 640 pound feet of torque which is equivalent to 870.4 nm. To illustrate, Isuzu Trooper's 4JX1-TC (3.0li TDI) engine has 333.54 n.m, Toyota Fortuner's 1KD-FTV (3.0li D4D) engine has 343 n.m of torque.

That has to make Isuzu earn the respect of America's seasoned truckers. GMC needed Isuzu's help just to go up against Ford's Powerstroke and Dodge's Cummins. It seems that that trucks are the next line of vehicles to be dominated by the Japanese.

September 10th, 2005 12:50 AM #6Sir BenchPh1, that was an interesting article about the Touareg. It is worth sharing with our friends here at Tsikot. Guys, here is the site: http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2100/article.html It may not be the most powerful but nevertheless interesting to post it here. Thanks a lot Sir BenchPh1 for pointing that out.

Last thing I heard about GMC diesels is that they consume fuel almost as lustily as their gasoline counterparts.

September 10th, 2005 02:28 AM #10damn, it's on the 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha!
H1 Alpha's Duramax slugs out 300 hp and a massive 520 pound-feet of peak torque at 1,500 rpm.
