I would like to congratulate those still using 4L mineral oil.
Nakatipid kayo ng P800 sa hindi pag gamit ng synthetic oil.

    Talagang napakalaking natipid!

some car owners prefer changeing oil every 5000 km.
"it rids the engine of gunk, dirt and metal filings earlier, preventing build-up, compared to changeing oil every 10,000 km.

the takumi of the nissan gtr recommends cheap mineral oil use x oil change every 5000 km.
he says the difference with FS oil use isn't that much, engine protection-wise.

actually mas mahal pa ngayon ang mineral e.g. havoline formula 10w30 vs low-priced group3 like xteer accel repsol etc

this guy says to buy the cheapest oil and change often.

no need to buy expensive boutique oil

Sir, there are no rules preventing you from using fully synthetic oil with your preferred 5000km interval oil change.

Let's say 4L of mineral oil costs P1,200 (according to the previous posts here)
Branded 4L of Fully Synthetic oil cost around P2,000.
You saved P800 per oil change right?

How many times do you change your oil per year? Let's say twice a year, which would also net you around 5000 Kms.
So if you change your oil twice a year using mineral oil instead of fully synthetic oil, you saved only around P8,000 in 5 years.

Personally, I use fully synthetic oil but still follow the 5,000km oil change interval.

Difference isn't that much he says. But nonetheless there's still a difference right?

I actually am happy with an 800 savings vs none. That's a cool bucket of Chickenjoy. I only kept my cars for not more than 12 years and below 90k kms and I have even used 20w50 because I did not know much about viscosity back then. I even rev up the car at SLEX with the buyers to show off, that the engine is still powerful. I don't know if the buyers have a problem with it after, but I've spotted 2 being driven at SLEX years after I sold them. Looks fine to me.

The highest odometer reading I had was 250k at 7 years with a Nissan Frontier. Being a company car, they don't authorize anything higher than mineral oil. Years after I left the Company, I learned that the one who took over it had no problems.

    well,
    savings is savings.
those who wish to use FS and change oil every 5000 km, are welcome to do so.

what i understand from "isn't that much",
" for ordinary driving, the difference (in the effect on the engine) is not as much as you think." translation: insignificant. especially if one has no intention of holding onto the car for 300,000 km.
" but for racing and other similar challenging driving, where fractions of a second decide who wins and who loses, 'we need all the help we can get' ".

so i suppose, the bottomline question is,
"for ordinary driving, am i spending more than i should?"

    and yes,
800 bucks buys me a barrel of fried chicken, or a month's worth of bigaa mac meals (4x a month).

I'm liking this college student vibe here. I remember the time when I thought of P800 as savings when I was a student. Makes me nostalgic.

our tita, the epitome of skinflint, used to warn us, "san moko papalakarin nang makakapulot ng (put amount here) sa daan?"

when i was young and poor-ish, 300 bucks would overflow my gaas tank from empty.
my daily allowance in my high school days, was 4 pesos.
with a background like this, one can understand how i see 800 pesos.

I dunno. Probably those with mechanical sympathy, enthusiasts, gearheads, studies engines for experience, and maybe good samaritans.

Probably not. I rode some older taxis and their engines were already knocking, sure sign it was neglected.

cheap supertech oil (accel). car is fine after 150,000 miles

so if you used amsoil signature you would've spent a lot more only for the (very marginal) benefit of the 2nd owner. that's stupid if you ask me

btw you can take a peek through the oil filler. there's my ford engine on cheap oil

Extended oil drain intervals are overrated in my opinion. Max I could do in a naturally aspirated car that is only driven on highway is 1 year. In my turbo cars, I replace it as early as 5 months, max 6 months.
