So I went to a Shell Gasoline station near us to inquire about 5w30.

They told me that 5w30 is already phased out and is has been replaced by 0w40. They keep insisting that it is better for my car.

    Any thoughts on the 0w40?

I visited 2, in e.rodriguez and tomas morato.
They said that 0w40 replaced the 5w30 in their fully synthetic lineup

I've heard that for a very old car, they do not recommend a fully synthetic oil. One explanation they offered is that the oil "will not stick fully" to the cylinder walls. A very old car will not benefit from this since you will lose lubrication. Newer cars, according to them, has very small clearances that with such viscosity it will be better to use synthetic oil.

Let's wait for the experts here to confirm this.

I think this is the oil that they used for my car last Monday. They also said that this oil is better. I just can't remember the last digit but I'm sure that the first digit is zero.

0w na talaga ang uso ngayon. I think I’ve read an article that says the “real” synthetics nowadays are yung mga 0w oils. Kahit ang mga used oil analysis, in favor talaga sa 0w oils. Wala naman problema sa 0w40 since 40 yung last number, sakto padin sa climate natin. Most of the new cars now are designed around 0w oils for fuel efficiency and emissions.

    What is your car sir?

Kia Picanto bro, which requires 5w30 based on the manual.

Though I am thinking na baka wala pa 0w40 sa manual since new oil sya and my car is 5 years old already.

Ah nakalagay sa manual na 5w30 oil lang talaga at wala ng iba? If that’s the case I’d stick with what the manual recommends.

Usually kasi kahit na may suggested oil weight sa manual, may mga suggestion padin na ibang oil weights if ever not available yung unang recommendation.

    Example:

No significant difference ang 5w30 and 0w40 sa performance or longevity ng engine. Better fuel economy ang w30 since its thinner.
Your manual should state that you adjust your oil viscosity accordingly sa ambient temperature and conditions.
But remember na summertime na sa atin so papalo ng 40s ang temperature natin so better ang w40 oil. Thats what im using now for summer. For -ber months i use w30. Actually i get the same FC sa 2 oils with my Starex.
