What I do with my rigs still under warranty I instruct the casa to use the correct weight oil. On my LC 200 - 5w40 Motul CRDi oil. Intially they used 30 weight oil, unfortunately even before the next PMS, dipstick reflects some oil loss.

Toyota casa is easier to deal with on this. I got a Jetta recently and VW insists on using a 20 or 30 weight oil. Had to top up about half a liter months before it's next PMS. They'll eventually turn around.

Itatanong ko sana kung available ang W20 sa atin, yun pala VW is recommending it pa pala. Hindi kaya VW Baguio or cordillera yan? Pwede ang w20 sa cold weather lang[emoji51]

Hahaha. I just checked the invoice of the 1st PMS for the Jetta. VW used Castrol VW 50700 5w-30. Hindi naman pala 20 weight. If I find a 5w-40 alternative (same required classification), I'll instruct the dealer to use the heavier weight oil.

On my old school diesel fed rigs (LC 80 and Gen 2.5 Pajero) I use Delo Gold 15w-40 every 4k kms. Both rigs have high mileage, with the Gen 2.5 at 270k kms and the LC 80 at 160k kms. Keep in mind that the oil filter is also important so for that I usually use Baldwin or Fleetguard filters.

They're not quite that consistent. It may depend on the target market.

There are X7 and X5 designations that are Diesel-specific.

Question: The last oil that we used is Shell Helix Hx7 5w40.

I just realized now that the manual recommends 5w30.

Would there be any implications by using 40 over 30? And can I simply go back to 30 on my next change oil?

    TIA
