When interpreting the recommended oil viscosity do not overlook the "OR BETTER" clause
In 2009 40 is a good and recommended viscosity for the engine then, fastforward to present time 20 is most definitely better than 40 in terms of friction reduction.
Hence, an old engine will have no adverse effect using the latest and better oil
The only bad thing about old engine is, if it is leaking oil, then thin oil such as 20 will drain much faster than a thick oil like 40
