IMHO kung basa ng langis tail pipe, most likely oil burner na nga yan sir. There are a few things we can look at to isolate your problem. Kaya lang any of these will entail some expense:

    1) Worn out valve stem seals or worn out valve guides.
    2) Warped cylinder head gasket
    3) Stuck up oil control rings
    4) Worn out Piston Rings.
    5) Cylinder out of round

Any of the 5 above will require tearing down the engine. While mas mura ang padukot sir, sometimes mas masakit sa ulo and frustrating pag 'dinukot' lang tapos hindi na solve yung problem. Yun bang gumastos kana rin, tapos di parin na ayos yung problema.

During my time when I had a 1995 V6 Galant, ganyan din payo sa akin, pa dukot. Kaso my mechanic told me it's more worthwhile to do a general overhaul to see what other parts need to be replaced. Para isang kalasan nalang ika nga. True enough, my galant's engine regained its power and hindi na nag bburn ng langis after.

Now in the case of the kung ano yung dapat ipa machine shop, usually yung mga cylinders yun pag out of round sila.

Btw, ganu kalakas na sya kumain ng langis? kung di pa naman ganun kalala, try mo alagaan muna ng change oil. baka kung oil control rings yan, baka mag loosen up at mawala yung kumakain ng oil or mabawasn man lang.

    HTH

Go and look for a reputable and honest mechanic, then ask them for an estimate of the general overhaul cost. IMO, It would be much better to replace the engine than do the overhaul if cost is almost the same.

Kia Pride's engine are a pain in the *ss if not treated properly especially if you are not the first owner. A surplus Japan Engine of the same models and a lot better in terms of durability and performance (B5/B6 SOHC) will stash your pocket at about 12K-15K, you can haggle the price to go a bit down. Only trouble with changing the engine is the papers (LTO change), but in the long run, a 1500 or 1600 SOHC fitted on a Kia Price will result in a better FC due to it's power to weight ratio.

Or if you have the moolah, go for a more bigger engine and EFI system (Z5/B6/BP). Most Kias that have changed their engines to EFI has an average of 14KM/L FC.

Trust me, I've been on that path.
