    Hi guys,
I had my timing belt changed last week. Naputol kase but almost 50,000 km pa lang ang odo. I suspect the old belt is a fake. I replaced it with OEM. Luckily, naputol yung belt while car is idle and valves and internals are ok. Kaya lang i noticed na humina ng konti ang hatak after replacement compared just before naputol. Also may naririning akong parang mahina tunog ng pepper shaker o maracas sa engine. Could this be due to incorrect valve timing dahil sa improper belt replacement? or loose tensioner? any inputs? Engine is 4g15

suspect ko pinging sound ang naririnig mo. baka masyadong advanced ang ignition mo sanhi nang pagkakabalik nung mekaniko sa distributor mo nung nagpalit ka nang t-belt.

if improper ang timing crank and camshaft as well as spark occurence, therefore hindi aandar.
pano pala nalaman na ok ang engine internals? binuksan nyo ba or some kind of compression test sa bawat cylinder?
i suspect may compression loss sa 1 or more cylinder dahil sa damaged valve (incorrect valve seating). nakaidle man or high rev ang makina e pwede pa rin magkaroon ng piston or valve damage lalu na kung interference ang engine mo. once na naputol yung belt kasi e hindi naman agad hihinto ang rotation or paggalaw ng piston at valves. kumbaga may momentum pa. sa pagkakaalam ko e mitsubishi yang 4g15 mo. the so called "saturn". ipa compression test mo na lang para cgurado. pero ipacheck mo muna yung mga madaling itroubleshoot.

the valve cover was removed, and rocker arms, springs, etc were inspected. Wala naman kalog which is sure sign of bad valves. Would anyone know if this is an interference engine?

baka naman timing lang. or a stuck valve lifter. or a broken tensioner bearing.

could be a bent valve nung sumalpok yung valve sa piston when the belt broke (i hope not though).

i suggest you return the valve clearances back to spec and have the timing adjusted ulit.

4G15 SOHC is an interference engine.

hmm, strange. i found this manual for mitsus that says that the 1.5 and 1.8 L models are non-interference types while the 1.6, 2.0 and 3.0 are interference types. Anyway, I will have the timing and valves checked to be sure.
