the intake manifold is either made from aluminum, magnesium or polymer. the exhaust manifold is sometimes made of cast iron or steel tubes (headers). if they look rusted, you can use rust converter (the popular brand at the hardware stores is "turco". you brush this on or roller this liquid on and it converts rust into a substance that turns whitish. this effect is similar to your immunization shots, it retards further corrosion. then apply high temperature primer and high temperature paint
