a read & hear a lot of different types of HP.
there's this WHP, and there's this BHP.
ano-ano pa ba mga HP jan sa motoring industries, at ano difference ng bawat isa?

    thanx.

HP is how the manufacturers refer to the actual BHP (brake horsepower).

Brake horsepower aka HP is measured at the crank with no additional strain (AC belts, etc.) on the powertrains. While WHP is measured at the wheels with all the additional powertrain components(using dynomometer).

ps is another term for SHP, or shaft horsepower. that is the power available at the output shaft of a motor or engine (after the flywheel). so in the car engine that is the power available between the engine and the transmission. most of the time expressed in horsepower.

ah ok ... nakakalito kasi nababasa ko parang ganito "Power: 135 PS" ... parang unit of power ang PS, like kW or Hp ... siguro hindi english yung origin ng PS ... baka french, german, or italian kaya ... thanks

unit of power din ang PS, pero mas maliit ng konti lang kesa sa HP.

for all practical purposes, 1 PS is equal to 1 HP... sobrang liit lang ng difference

manufacturers measure horsepower at the crankshaft of the engine. however, keep in mind that there are losses incurred as the power is transmitted through the transmission and drivetrain (the drivetrain, with its numerous parts, is not 100% efficient). thus, power at the wheels ("wheel horsepower") will always be lower than the published crankshaft HP. keep in mind also, that ultimately, it is wheel horsepower that matters since it is the measure of how much power is actually making it to the ground.

the drivetrain losses total about 15%-25%... thus, a 160 hp Civic SiR is actually putting only about 130-140 hp to the front wheels
